Residential Counselor (CASAC)

Residential Counselor Location: Corona (Queens), NY • Full‑time • Salary: $54,982.20 (CASAC‑T) or $59,896.20 (CASAC) per year Our client has multiple openings in Queens for addiction counselor roles. Overview Even though substance abuse and mental health disorders transcend language and cultural barriers, language differences often block a person from accessing proper care and, ultimately, the opportunity for a fulfilling and complete life. Responsibilities Completes intake process and arrives at treatment recommendations and level of care decisions that are appropriate to the client’s level of functioning and medical necessity. Completes psychosocial assessments. Develops initial and comprehensive individualized treatment plans based on client’s needs, using client’s words, with measurable objectives within established timelines, based on assessment, psychosocial, client’s assessed stage of change, and in consultation with the client and treatment team as appropriate. Provides individual counseling based on treatment plans and client‑centered needs. Conducts group counseling. Conducts evidence‑based practices tailored to individual needs (CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Matrix Model, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, etc.). Responds to client feedback and suggestions. Is responsible for verification of employment and timely, accurate collection of pay stubs and client fees. Conducts discharge planning with the client. Skills Knowledge of evidence‑based practice models of treatment (MI, CBT, CRAFT, etc.) Team mindset Ability to stay calm in a crisis Strong interpersonal communication (written and spoken) Culturally sensitive and empathetic Proficient computer skills (Word, Outlook, etc.) Flexibility in weekend shift coverage or swap Familiarity with electronic documentation programs Qualifications CASAC‑T with 1 year experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse and co‑occurring disorders; or CASAC‑T with 2–3 years experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse and co‑occurring disorders; or HS Diploma and 6 years experience working with applicable populations who have substance abuse and co‑occurring disorders.
