CADD Student Technician – Student Worker Para Professional Agency: Transportation Department Location: Rochester, MN; Telework Eligible: Yes; Full/Part Time: Part-Time; Salary: $17.84 - $20.89/hour; Contract Length: up to 36 months. The position supports design and project development functions. The incumbent works full‑time during summer semesters and part‑time during the school year, with the flexibility to telecommute or work in the office. Responsibilities Learn and perform basic/routine CADD drafting in accordance with CADD standards and MnDOT Design Standards. Conduct project background research and maintain project information efficiently. Assist in preparing final design construction plans, computing pay item quantities, tabulations, and design details. Learn MnDOT’s Design‑Bid‑Build Quality Management Process (QMP) and assist with cross‑checking construction plans and quantity computations for accuracy. Develop proficiency with Open Roads Designer (ORD) CADD software. Assist with project scoping, gather data from past projects, collect field data and measurements, and prepare report summaries. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled or enrolling within three months as a full‑time student (≥6 semester/9 quarter credits) in a Civil Engineering Technology or CADD program with a GPA ≥ 2.0. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word). Ability to understand technical documents and follow instructions. Either possess own transportation or a valid Class D driver’s license for state business travel. Must be 18 years or older. Preferred Qualifications Experience using Open Roads Designer, MicroStation & GEOPAK, or similar CADD software. Full‑time enrollment in a Civil Engineering Technology or CADD program with a GPA ≥ 3.0. Experience in the design functional area. Physical Requirements The employee may work indoors or outdoors, in extreme temperatures. The job requires regular sitting, use of wrists, hands, and fingers, and occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and crouching. The employee may need to drive a vehicle in off‑road conditions, walk uneven terrain, operate machinery, and lift or push up to 10 pounds.
