Student & Young Adult Ministry Director

Full-time

CCCHURCH

Student & Young Adult Ministry Director

Christian Community Church | Columbus, Ohio

The Opportunity:

Christian Community Church is seeking a spiritually mature, relationally strong, team building ministry leader to serve the next season of Student & Young Adult Ministry in alignment with CCC's mission, values, discipleship pathway, and the vision and direction of the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and leadership team. This role will cultivate vibrant, fun, discipleship centered ministry environments where students and young adults are known, connected, formed in the way of Jesus, equipped to serve, and meaningfully integrated into the life of the church.

ROLE AT A GLANCE

  • Position Title: Student & Young Adult Ministry Director
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Reports To: Executive Pastor
  • Ministry Scope: Middle school, high school, and young adult ministry
  • Core Focus: Vision aligned discipleship, relational ministry, volunteer leadership, parent partnership, staff collaboration, and sustainable ministry execution
  • Church Mission: To befriend people with the love of God and walk with them in the way of Jesus so that all of Columbus can flourish.
  • Core Values: Faithfulness, Courage, Humility, Wisdom, and Compassionate Grace

POSITION SUMMARY

The Student & Young Adult Ministry Director provides vision aligned leadership for CCC's student and young adult ministries by implementing ministry goals and objectives in partnership with CCC's leadership team. Rather than operating as an independent ministry owner, the Director translates CCC's mission, values, and Living the Way discipleship priorities into age appropriate ministry rhythms for middle school students, high school students, and young adults.

The Director cultivates a ministry environment that is spiritually grounded, relationally warm, engaging, fun, safe, and fully aligned with CCC's broader discipleship pathway. Through intentional leadership and disciple making, the Director develops volunteers and emerging leaders, strengthens trust and partnership with parents, establishes consistent ministry rhythms, and helps students and young adults take meaningful next steps in faith, community, service, and mission.

DESIRED OUTCOMES

What Success Looks Like:

  1. Thriving student ministry: Implement a ministry that reflects CCC's vision and is engaging, spiritually meaningful, relationally magnetic, and fun for middle school and high school students.
  2. Healthy volunteer team: Identify, recruit, train, empower, and care for adult volunteers who can help carry the ministry in alignment with CCC's expectations, values, and discipleship direction.
  3. Strong parent partnership: Communicate clearly and consistently so parents understand CCC's vision, calendar, expectations, safety practices, and discipleship direction.
  4. Relational connection: Establish leadership systems and ministry rhythms that help students and young adults feel known, encouraged, and connected beyond formal programming.
  5. Young adult pathway: In partnership with staff leadership, implement an intentional strategy for young adults to belong, grow, serve, and participate in the life of CCC.
  6. Churchwide alignment: Consistently translate CCC's mission, values, and Living the Way discipleship emphasis in an age appropriate and compelling manner.
  7. Healthy ministry systems: Establish repeatable rhythms that support CCC approved plans for communication, volunteer onboarding, events, budget stewardship, safety, and evaluation.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision Aligned Student Ministry Leadership:

  • Partner with the Lead Pastor, Executive Pastor, and leadership team to translate CCC's mission and discipleship priorities into a compelling ministry approach for middle school and high school students.
  • Plan and lead regular gatherings, small groups, teaching rhythms, events, service opportunities, retreats, camps, and relational connection points that support CCC's ministry direction, whether directly or in collaboration with other CC Network churches.
  • Create ministry environments that students want to attend and can confidently invite friends into while remaining aligned with CCC's theology, values, safety expectations, and broader church rhythms.

Young Adult Ministry Development:

  • Partner with CCC leadership to clarify the needs, opportunities, and ministry model for young adults connected to CCC.
  • Implement a practical pathway for young adults to belong, grow, serve, and participate in the life of the church in alignment with CCC's discipleship pathway.
  • Develop leaders and ministry rhythms appropriate for post high school, college age, and young adult participants that support CCC's vision for discipleship, community, service, and mission.

Volunteer Team Building:

  • Identify, recruit, develop, equip, evaluate, support, and care for student and young adult ministry volunteers in ways that reflect CCC's leadership expectations and discipleship culture.
  • Build a team that complements the Director's strengths and expands ministry capacity through capable, trusted leaders who operate within CCC's ministry direction.
  • Set clear expectations for volunteer roles, communication, safety, training, discipleship, and accountability.

Teaching, Discipleship & Pastoral Care:

  • Provide biblically faithful, age appropriate teaching that reflects CCC's theology, mission, values, and Living the Way discipleship emphasis.
  • Mentor students, young adults, and volunteer leaders with integrity, wisdom, humility, and compassion.
  • Partner with parents and staff to care well for students and young adults through personal, relational, and spiritual challenges.

Parent Communication & Partnership:

  • Communicate regularly and clearly with parents regarding CCC's vision, schedules, events, teaching themes, expectations, safety practices, and ministry direction.
  • Build trust through responsiveness, transparency, consistency, and relational availability.
  • Equip parents as primary disciples and ministry partners in ways that reinforce CCC's discipleship priorities.

Planning, Administration & Stewardship:

  • Develop calendars, budgets, communication plans, volunteer schedules, registration processes, and event logistics in coordination with staff leadership and with strong follow-through.
  • Ensure ministry environments are safe, prepared, organized, and consistent with CCC policies and expectations.
  • Evaluate ministry effectiveness with leadership input and adjust plans based on feedback, participation, volunteer capacity, and discipleship fruit.

Staff Collaboration & Churchwide Alignment:

  • Work under the direction of the Executive Pastor and collaboratively with the Lead Pastor, staff, elders, and ministry leaders to strengthen CCC's overall discipleship pathway.
  • Support successful transitions between children's ministry, student ministry, young adult ministry, life groups, serving teams, and broader church life.
  • Maintain a non siloed ministry posture by actively seeking alignment, sharing information, receiving feedback, and contributing to the unity, health, and mission of CCC.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Holy Spirit-led and biblically grounded: Lives from a deep personal walk with Christ and teaches from a strong understanding of Scripture.
  • Humble, self-aware, and coachable: Receives feedback well, learns continuously, owns mistakes, and understands personal strengths and limitations.
  • Relationally warm and approachable:  Naturally connects with students, young adults, parents, volunteers, and staff in both one-on-one and group settings.
  • Courageous team builder:  Has the confidence to recruit strong leaders, delegate responsibility, empower others, and address issues directly while staying aligned with CCC's leadership direction.
  • Clear communicator: Communicates with parents, volunteers, students, and staff in a timely, thoughtful, and organized manner.
  • Fun, engaging, and creative:  Understands that energy, belonging, joy, and meaningful experiences are important parts of student ministry.
  • Organized executor: Can translate CCC's ministry vision into practical planning, details, calendar discipline, budget stewardship, and follow-through.
  • Collaborative staff teammate:  Values leadership alignment, honors delegated authority, avoids silos, communicates proactively, and contributes to a healthy staff culture.
  • Discipleship-oriented leader:  Knows how to translate CCC's discipleship priorities into practical ministry rhythms for students and young adults.
  • Mature judgment under pressure:  Demonstrates wisdom, emotional maturity, confidentiality, and sound decision-making in difficult situations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Dedicated Christian and member in good standing of a local church.
  • Agreement with CCC's Statement of Faith, mission, values, discipleship pathway, and leadership expectations, including a willingness to operate within CCC's established vision and direction.
  • Bachelor's degree, ministry training, biblical studies background, or equivalent ministry preparation.
  • Minimum of three years of successful ministry leadership experience, preferably with students, young adults, or volunteer-led ministries.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, equip, and lead volunteer teams.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills, including parent and volunteer communication.
  • Administrative competence, including planning, calendar management, budgeting, event logistics, and follow-through.
  • Commitment to biblical standards of leadership, personal discipleship, generosity, integrity, and healthy community participation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google Workspace or equivalent tools, as well as digital communication and social media platforms.

  • Experience leading a growing student ministry and/or young adult ministry.
  • Experience developing ministry momentum during a season of growth, change, or transition.

  • Familiarity with discipleship pathways, small groups, camps/retreats, local mission, and parent partnership models.
