Staff Software Engineer, Search Ads Serving Infrastructure

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. 8 years of experience programming in C++. 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products. 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. 3 years of experience with software design and architecture. Preferred Qualifications Experience in mathematics. Experience with automation systems and related infrastructure. Experience in large-scale distributed systems (e.g., indexing, serving, performance tuning, etc.). Experience programming in C/C++. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a range of people and job functions. Thousands of engineers in dozens of feature and quality teams develop on this system. The system is constantly evolving to support numerous launches, and provides APIs, testing frameworks and tools/processes to allow high developer productivity and operational excellence. We’re made up of multiple teams, building Google’s Advertising products including search, display, shopping, travel and video advertising, as well as analytics. Our teams create trusted experiences between people and businesses with useful ads. We help grow businesses of all sizes from small businesses, to large brands, to YouTube creators, with effective advertiser tools that deliver measurable results. We also enable Google to engage with customers at scale. Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $207,000 - $301,000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits. Responsibilities Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects. Play a leading role in a highly reliable infrastructure that's responsible for revenue. Collaborate across Ads teams to understand client teams' needs, identify opportunities, and deliver impact. Identify performance optimization opportunities and deliver latency/resource savings. Build automation systems and related tools to operate this large and critical system at scale.
