Dentist PositionTohatchi Health Center, Navajo Area Indian Health Service Tohatchi, New Mexico | Full-Time | 8-hour day, 5 days/week (2,080 hours/year, on-site)Position OverviewTohatchi Health Center (THC) is an outpatient facility of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service, located approximately 25 miles north of Gallup, NM, providing primary and specialty care to approximately 8,000 nearby residents of the Navajo Nation. THC is seeking one (1) Dentist to provide continuous outpatient dental services under a non-personal services contract consisting of a one-year base period and two one-year option periods. The provider will work an 8:00 am–4:30 pm tour of duty (30-minute lunch), Monday through Friday, with no overtime, comp-time, on-call, or holiday requirements. Payment is for actual hours worked.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide outpatient dental diagnosis, treatment planning, and care in accordance with recognized dental standards of care and Gallup Service Unit/THC medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.Interview and examine dental patients, review dental history, order or perform diagnostic tests, and make preliminary diagnoses.Provide definitive treatment for cases not requiring referral; refer patients to contracted dental or other government facilities when specialty care is needed, ensuring timely follow-up.Provide emergency dental care as required and consult with other IHS dental providers as needed to define and manage complex cases.Prepare accurate prescriptions in accordance with federal and Public Health Service law, screening for drug interactions and appropriateness of therapy.Maintain patient records in Problem-Oriented Medical Record format within the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS); complete all dental records at the end of each work session.Participate in THC's peer review and performance improvement programs and incorporate findings into practice.Qualifications & ExperienceMinimum of 24 months of professional experience, including residency, unless otherwise approved by the Contracting Officer.Current, valid, active, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. Territory, maintained throughout the contract term.Current Board certification, or Board eligible.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Current, valid, unrestricted driver's license.Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare staff; cultural sensitivity to American Indian and Alaska Native patient populations.CompensationTwo compensation options are available for this position:W-2 Employee: $118.75/hour ($4,750 weekly wage, 40 hrs) plus a $1,246 weekly per diem ($5,996 weekly gross), a one-time $2,000 travel allowance, and eligibility for Health, Dental, and Vision insurance.1099 Independent Contractor: $150.00/hour, all-inclusive ($6,000 weekly gross, 40 hrs), plus a one-time $2,000 travel allowance.Application ProcessInterested candidates must submit a current CV and three (3) professional references for consideration.
