About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Must have state license in hand Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of Emergency Department experience Description: Must have state license in hand. Trauma IV designation. No stroke or STEMI receiving capabilities. Patients are sent out for those conditions. The department has 14 beds and 2 trauma bays. There are 3 designated Fast Track rooms. Triage is performed in 2 separate rooms. Travelers may triage after review and understanding of facility policies and procedures. Patients are typically held in the department, with overflow utilizing attached rooms. Separate psych/seclusion rooms are available and any room can be converted as needed. Security is not in-house 24/7; local police and internal code backup are utilized. On average, the ER treats 40-60 patients per day. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3-4 during the day, and 1:2 overnight after 3 AM until 7 AM. Common patient diagnoses include variable traumas, motor vehicle accidents, and other emergencies. The ED has both physicians and mid-level providers available 24/7. Charge nurses may take assignments during the day. Staffing includes nurse aids, EMTs, paramedics, and LPNs. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7 and performs ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs. There is no dedicated monitor tech; RNs read their own strips. X-rays are available 24/7. Phlebotomy draws labs around the clock. Shifts include various start times, and scheduling is managed by the department. Weekend requirements include every other Saturday and Sunday. Holiday requirements typically involve 2-3 shifts during winter needs and otherwise every other holiday. There is no mandatory call or standby, but volunteers may go home without pay. Floating within inpatient settings may be required. Scrubs should be any solid color, clean, and professional. Unit-specific training includes computer-based learning and floor orientation.
