A sign-on bonus will be offered to well-qualified candidates. Position schedule: Mon - Fri 7:00 am - 3:30 pm or 7:30 am - 4:00 pm (rotating schedule based on department needs). Job Summary : Leads and supports the daily operations of the Nuclear Medicine department while providing direct patient care. Performs nuclear medicine procedures by operating nuclear imaging equipment and following established departmental and clinical protocols to produce high-quality diagnostic images and support appropriate patient treatment. Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to staff, promotes efficient workflow, and ensures compliance with departmental policies, hospital standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations, including NRC, TJC, and Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) guidelines. Key Accountabilities: Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures for preparation of kits and IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging to assist the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment. Assesses the appropriateness of requested exams by using pre-established guidelines for exam ordering to ensure that the exam is performed accurately the first time. Operates nuclear detection, imaging, and computer processing equipment for nuclear radiologic studies by following professional, hospital, and departmental protocols to provide the physician with diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for the patient’s condition. Performs periodic quality control tests on imaging, hot lab equipment, and radiopharmaceuticals by checking equipment performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with department standards to ensure the integrity of the system and patient safety. Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing specific tasks mandated by the NRC to maintain compliance with NRC licensing regulations. Maintains the Nuclear medicine equipment in good operating order. Places work orders/tickets with the appropriate service lines to maintain periodic testing and calibration of equipment. Cleans and disinfects equipment according to hospital policies. Maintains the work area remains orderly. Reports any hazardous conditions or breakdowns to the manager. Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients regarding patient’s age, condition, or other special requirements. Ensure Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment maintains accreditation and regulatory compliance. Assist with coordinating daily staff assignments and scheduling to maintain appropriate departmental coverage. Support the implementation of new equipment, software, and imaging technology. Serve as a liaison between physicians, technologists, and leadership to promote effective communication. Coordinate daily workflow to support efficient patient care and department operations. Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by maintaining and understanding policies, procedures, and the clinical competency process (to evaluate student growth and competence in performing nuclear medicine procedures). Performs Nuclear Medicine Technologist duties and maintains the knowledge, skills, credentials, and competency necessary to perform all duties and responsibilities outlined in the Nuclear Medicine Technologist job description. Qualifications Guidelines: Education and Experience Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a JRCNMT accredited nuclear medicine technology program. Certification through NMTCB or ARRT (N). CPR certification. Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by licensure. Associates or Applied Science Degree in related field is desirable. At least three years of experience in Nuclear Medicine is desirable. Knowledge and Qualifications Knowledge of nuclear medicine principles, including radiopharmaceutical preparation, administration, and imaging procedures. Understanding of human anatomy, physiology, and disease processes related to nuclear medicine imaging. Knowledge of radiation safety, dosimetry, and ALARA principles, with compliance to federal and state regulations. Ability to assess, prepare, educate, and monitor patients throughout nuclear medicine procedures. Knowledge of quality control procedures for Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT equipment. Performs quarterly testing on camera and nuclear medicine equipment (well counter, dose calibrator, etc). Understanding of infection prevention, patient safety, and emergency procedures. Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, and healthcare teams. Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and accreditation requirements. Familiarity with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), state regulations, and departmental policies for the safe handling and disposal of radioactive materials. Implements and maintains departmental protocols to ensure standardized, safe, and effective nuclear medicine practices. Skills/Abilities: Schedule, organize and monitor patient flow to meet company productivity, quality, health and safety standards. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff and co-workers. Maintain the confidentiality of patient records. Operate equipment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR) through RQI. Maintain ACR accreditation across all applicable imaging modalities. Facilitates daily workflow by organizing and prioritizing work, effectively multitasking, and supporting departmental needs while ensuring compliance with established protocols, quality standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. Physical Requirements Frequently stands and walks throughout the workday. Frequently lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment. Assists with positioning, transferring, and supporting patients during imaging procedures. Requires manual dexterity to operate imaging equipment, administer radiopharmaceuticals, and perform venipuncture. Requires frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting. Requires visual acuity to accurately assess images, monitor equipment, and review patient information. Requires the ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and staff in person, by telephone, and electronically. Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and radiation monitoring devices. Special Conditions: Works in a hospital environment with exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and other occupational hazards; follows all infection prevention and safety protocols. Handles and administers radioactive materials in accordance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), state, and organizational radiation safety standards. Job includes exposure to ionizing radiation; adherence to radiation safety practices and dosimeter monitoring is required. Minimal call coverage required on a rotating basis.
