ELECTRICIAN LEADER

Summary You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN LEADER in the ELECTRICAL SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will relay supervisor's instructions to both nuclear and non-nuclear electricians in assigned work group. You will set the pace and instruct employees on proper work procedures, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shipboard electrical systems. You will verify work is done in accordance with accepted procedures and/or instructions. You will give appropriate skills training utilizing shop training tools such as mock ups, in shop work areas or facilities, and on deck-plates. You will ensure records and qualifications are maintained. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Instructing various levels of electricians on proper work procedures and methods, use of tools, and safety pertaining to shop trade skills. Directing crew members in the proper setting up of the shops' involvement in boat arrivals, boat dry docking requirements, undocking, and berthing requirements. Verifying work progress and ensuring that the proper protective equipment is being used and safety practices are being followed by crew members. Ensuring crew members follow the work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines have been met. Seeing that the necessary material, tools, blueprints, and any software and equipment is furnished and available to crew members to perform the work. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and work orders.
