Job Description
Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Responsibilities
Responsible for providing safety support within the Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene (OS&IH) Division.
Provides PULSE support for construction of assigned projects, UCEP, ASD, MSTS and subcontract construction activities and other duties as assigned. Supports the PULSE Work Planning Center, conducts walkdowns and work package reviews, and provides oversight of work performance including off shift and non-standard work shifts if needed.
Responsible for administering and enforcing the Occupational Safety program for underground operations to include construction, maintenance and experimentation activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts studies and makes recommendations related to potential or actual accident occurrences and hazards and the MSTS Accident Prevention Program.
- Assists higher level Safety Professionals in the development and implementation of methods for accident prevention.
- Advises Company personnel on matters concerning occupational safety, safety codes, and accident prevention programs.
- Assists field supervision in providing instruction or instructional material on accident prevention to subordinate personnel.
- Inspects work sites to identify potential or existing job hazards.
- Investigates accidents, including those involving vehicles, to determine relevant causes.
- Ensures timely and orderly completion of inspections, investigations, or reports.
- Serves as a communication point for occupational safety requirements and practices as assigned.
- Maintains awareness of current additions or revisions to safety codes and standards and applies to work responsibilities as necessary.
- May provide technical direction for lower-level Specialists.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety or related field, or equivalent training and experience and at least 2 years of related occupational safety experience.
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy required in writing technical documents and ensuring all Company policies and procedures are followed.
- Able to utilize independent judgment, creativity, initiative, and ability to apply knowledge and experience to resolve problems and compose technical correspondence and reports, and accomplish goals where established procedures may not be specific.
- Must be highly organized and able to prioritize and schedule multiple activities of the organizational unit.
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal with all types of people in a tactful, professional, and effective manner while screening and maintaining confidentiality.
- Able to remember/recall extensive policies, procedures, terminology, schedules, personnel, and other details.
- Able to deal with pressure of handling multiple tasks, complaints, frequent interruptions, and time constraints.
- Must be able to work in an underground setting.
- MSHA and mining experienced preferred.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, "Personnel Security". If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, "Counterintelligence Evaluation Program."

Annual salary range for this position is: $80,936.00 - $121,430.40.
Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
