Bettendorf Community School District is seeking a compassionate, student-centered professional to join our team as a full-time Elementary School Counselor at Mark Twain Elementary for the 2026-27 school year. Terms of Employment Contract: Salary $50,000 (MA, Step 0; based on the 2025-2026 salary schedule)

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in School Counseling or related field.
• Valid Iowa School Counselor License with K-12 Professional School Counselor endorsement.
• Demonstrated successful experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
• Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), social-emotional learning, and crisis response practices preferred.
• Must be able to provide required I-9 documentation to verify eligibility to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities:

The school counselor is responsible for supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of students in the school. This role involves providing guidance, counseling services, and resources to help students overcome personal challenges, develop coping skills, and achieve their educational goals.

Essential Functions:

• Provide individual and group counseling to students facing academic, social, emotional, or behavioral challenges, helping them develop coping strategies and problem-solving skills.
• Respond to students in crisis, providing immediate support and intervention, and collaborating with teachers, parents, and mental health professionals as needed.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support students' academic and personal needs, ensuring a comprehensive approach to student well-being.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies and administrative regulations.
• Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
• Evaluate students' or individuals' abilities, interests and personality characteristics using tests, records, interviews or professional sources.
• Identify cases of domestic abuse or other family problems and encourage students or parents to seek additional assistance from mental health professionals.
• Provide special services such as alcohol and drug prevention programs and classes that teach students to handle conflicts without resorting to violence.
• Conduct follow-up interviews with counselees to determine if their needs have been met.
• Assist students with academic planning, including course selection, study skills, and strategies for improving performance, as well as monitoring academic progress.
• Develop and implement workshops, programs, and activities focused on social skills, conflict resolution, and self-esteem to promote personal growth and development.
• Advocate for the needs and rights of students, promoting a positive school climate and addressing barriers to learning and success.
• Perform all other related educational service duties as required or directed.

Required:

• Master's Degree in School Counseling
• Iowa License or Professional Service License
• Appropriate Endorsement for Teaching Assignment(s)
• Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
