Mechanical & Electrical Technician

Compensation and Work Hours $38.81 per hour, plus an additional shift differential if applicable. Work shifts: 3 rotative shifts per week (8‑hour, may extend to 16‑hour shifts). 24/7 operation with four shifts: 1st (7am‑3pm), 2nd (3pm‑11pm), 3rd (11pm‑7am), and swing shift covering days off. Overtime as required. Union contract may involve up to 16‑hour shifts. Key Responsibilities Diagnose mechanical and electrical machine failures by disassembly and inspection of components. Utilize technical documentation (prints, manuals, specifications, etc.) to aid troubleshooting. Accurately keep maintenance records of critical and quality‑related plant equipment. Determine root cause of failures and correct conditions to prevent recurrence. Audit the maintenance program and recommend opportunities for improvement. Repair failures using current procedures and recommend alternative repair methods. Develop, document, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment reliability. Generate out‑of‑tolerance reports for equipment outside acceptance criteria. Perform precision maintenance tasks such as alignment checks, measurement of mechanical clearances, and balancing of rotating equipment. Execute motor and plant lubrication tasks, ensuring grease quantity and intervals are maintained within guidelines. Maintain procedures for critical and quality‑related plant equipment. Understand and comply with all OSHA, state/provincial, and local codes. Participate in plant training and safety programs. Use the company computerized maintenance management system (SAP) to record and access maintenance‑related information. Demonstrate safe work habits and proper care for tools and equipment. Perform other duties as required. Acquire new mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics knowledge as appropriate. Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Certification in industrial maintenance or related field (industrial math, rigging, welding, pipefitting, machining, lubrication, condition‑based monitoring). Completed a formal maintenance or technology program with minimum of three years experience as general first‑class maintenance in an industrial environment. Some electrical and control systems troubleshooting experience required. Basic electrical knowledge (AC/DC voltage) and experience with PLCs and VFDs. Must complete pre‑employment assessments and pass background check, physical and drug screen. Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of common mechanical systems in industrial manufacturing (conveyors, pumps, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, material handling, boiler/steam systems). Ability to read and understand labels, blueprints, schematics, job‑site maps, instruction manuals, and written instructions accurately. Read, write, and speak in English; work in a team environment. Computer literate; experience with CMMS (SAP preferred). Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice and Food Safety, OSHA rules (preferred). Work Environment The North Kansas City plant is a 66‑acre facility operating 24hours a day, 365days a year. Each associate is part of the United Steel Workers Local11‑617 Union. Work includes participation in union contract conditions and shift rotations.
