About the Opportunity

Direct Counsel is seeking an experienced Of Counsel attorney to join a highly regarded Land Use & Environmental practice group representing both public and private sector clients on sophisticated development matters throughout California.

This practice handles large-scale, high-profile projects involving complex land use, environmental, and regulatory issues that shape communities and infrastructure across the state.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of experience advising clients on land use entitlements, environmental review, and regulatory permitting matters. Extensive experience with CEQA and California land use laws is required. Experience handling land use litigation is strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of relevant legal experience

• Extensive experience with CEQA (California Environmental Quality Act)

• Strong knowledge of California planning, zoning, and land use laws

• Experience advising clients on:

  • Land use entitlements

  • Regulatory permitting

  • Environmental review processes

• Land use litigation experience preferred

• Excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative environment

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $250,000 – $340,000 annually

Compensation will depend on several factors, including experience, qualifications, skill set, and office location.
