Heavy Equipment Operator

Operate specialized/heavy construction equipment involved in the maintenance and construction of County roads and city projects. Tarrant County employees enjoy superior health, retirement, and insurance benefits.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Operating different types of specialized/heavy equipment
• Performing road maintenance or construction related duties while operating equipment
• Transporting equipment and supplies
• Maintaining and controlling traffic at work site
• Performing routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and reporting needed repairs
• May perform general landscape maintenance
• Performing all other related duties as assigned

Minimum requirements include:

High school diploma or GED + two (2) full-time years of related work experience ~OR~ Six (6) full-time years of related work experience. A Class A CDL is required upon hire. Tanker endorsement is required within 30 days of hire for all positions that involve the operation of tank vehicles as defined by federal regulations. Must have basic knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.

If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment at new hire processing. Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudication in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to stoop, bend, push and pull. May have to lift heavy boxes or objects up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
