Director of Technology

Director of TechnologyProvide leadership and management of district technology operations, including network infrastructure, systems administration, instructional technology support, and technical services. Ensure the delivery of secure, reliable, and efficient technology solutions that support district goals for teaching, learning, and administrative operations.Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Strong technical knowledge of network systems, cybersecurity, and IT infrastructure. Proven leadership and project management skills. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Familiarity with student information systems, Google Workspace, and education technology platforms.Experience: Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in technology management, with at least two years in a supervisory role. Experience in K-12 or higher education preferred.Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.Direct daily operations of the Technology Department including infrastructure, systems, and end-user support. Oversee technology projects from planning to completion, ensuring alignment with district priorities and established timelines. Supervise technology staff, providing guidance, performance evaluation, and professional development. Establish, maintain, and enforce department procedures, service standards, and security protocols. Manage district-wide network operations including connectivity, servers, and data center functions. Oversee cybersecurity measures, system backups, disaster recovery, and access controls. Monitor system performance, ensuring minimal downtime and strong security practices. Coordinate software updates, hardware replacements, and device lifecycle management. Assist in developing and managing the technology department budget. Prepare specifications and cost estimates for technology purchases. Review and recommend technology contracts, licensing agreements, and service renewals. Maintain accurate inventory records of all hardware, software, and equipment. Partner with Teaching & Learning and campus administrators to support instructional technology integration. Coordinate with Business Services, HR, and other departments to ensure effective use of technology systems. Provide leadership in evaluating new technology tools and solutions for district-wide implementation. Serve as a key contact for technology-related problem solving, planning, and communication. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal technology regulations. Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, network maps, and licensing. Prepare required reports, audits, and updates for district leadership. Adhere to professional and ethical standards, in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics. Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job performance. Maintain confidentiality. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Attend and participate in staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and the Superintendent of Schools.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching. Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds). Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Environment: Indoors including but not limited to: classroom, cafeteria, library, or other campus location. Outdoors (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather). Exposure to noise. May work prolonged or irregular hours. A remote location in the event of a declared emergency, temporary closure, or closure. Personal Protective Equipment may be required.
