Special Event Paramedic

Job Description Summary Under the direct supervision of the Staff RN, this position performs select nursing-related activities, responds to code assists, performs procedures; utilizes prescribed equipment; and performs other miscellaneous duties. Responsibilities And Duties Patient Care Activities (40%): Takes vital signs and weight; participates in patient admission and transfer; prepares patient for physician evaluation; measures and records intake and output; performs CPR; performs EKG; obtains EKG; places patient on cardiac monitor; obtains oxygen saturation levels; provides oxygen per physician order/protocol; assists patient with activities; assists with turning, positioning, and other ADL. Transfers patient safely to diagnostic testing, in‑patient units, and other areas of the medical center. Responds to code assists. Utilizes orthopedic equipment; applies bandages and restraints as ordered. Applies compresses and bandages; applies heat and cold as directed; performs postmortem care. Irrigates NG tubes/connects NG tube to low wall suction; inserts Foley/straight catheters; maintains Foley catheter to straight drain; performs venous access to peripheral sites for lab draws, initiates peripheral IV catheters per MD order/protocol; discontinue peripheral intravenous catheters; cleanses wounds and applies sterile bandages as ordered. Assists physician with suturing. Discharges patient from the ED as directed by RN. Documents interventions, patient’s responses and care appropriately. Does not monitor or administer dosages/rate/infusions of medications other than normal saline e or any kind by any route. Does not perform independent intake/quick look or initial assessment triage. Performs Clinical Information System (40%): Maintains knowledge and skills necessary to interact with all ED communication and information systems. Enters orders and patient information; retrieves data as needed. Prepares and sends specimens to appropriate diagnostic facilities. Communicates appropriately with physician, hospital departments, and other patient care resources via telephone as directed. Prepares and maintains physician call schedules and other information. Assist with data collection. Documents all actions appropriately as needed. Equipment and Supply Maintenance (20%): Locates, cleans and organizes EMS equipment. Prepares EMS equipment for shipping and maintains records of same. Cleans and organizes emergency department equipment as needed. Re‑stocks patient care areas and supply areas as needed. Identifies equipment in need of repair, initiates work‑order, and delivers equipment for repair to Plant Operations. Maintains forms and supplies as needed.
