Home Study Caseworker

The anticipated Home Study and Post-Release Services for Unaccompanied Alien Children Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Administration for Children and Families, provides support to unaccompanied immigrant children through the two critical phases of home study (HS) and post-release services (PRS) to help ensure child safety, well-being, and security. HS/PRS providers will help children navigate family reunification challenges, trauma recovery, and integration into their new communities. The HS/PRS Program addresses critical needs in the continuum of care by conducting thorough evaluations of potential sponsor homes, including interviews, home visits, and comprehensive safety assessments. It delivers three levels of essential post-release support services: virtual check-ins for basic safety monitoring (Level 1), case management services for ongoing support and community connections (Level 2), and intensive engagements for families who require specialized interventions (Level 3). The program also builds protective factors that support successful community reintegration while addressing barriers to accessing essential services. The HS/PRS Program is currently in the pre-award, proposal stage and is not yet funded. This is an anticipated key personnel position and is contingent upon SAMU receiving an award and associated funding. RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct home studies compliant with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) within the HHS Administration for Children and Families. Complete assessments within set timeframes. Coordinate with care providers and ORR.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work or equivalent (education, psychology, sociology, or behavioral science). Experience: Highly proficient in a child’s language or has access to qualified interpreters. Experience conducting state-compliant home studies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Ideal candidates will have knowledge, skills, and experience in: Local community social services. Home study, post-release services, or both. Working with immigrant populations. Family preservation, kinship care, and child welfare. Professional assessment report writing. Child welfare and case management.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

Location: Home-based in assigned service region. Qualified candidates must reside in one of the following locations: AZ, CA, DC, FL, IL, MD, NY, TX, VA. Requires regular local travel within the assigned region to conduct in-person home visits with children and sponsors; valid driver’s license required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Any offer of employment is contingent upon completion, with favorable results, of all background checks required by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) before the employee begins providing services, including: Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) fingerprint check of national and state criminal history repositories. Child protective services (CPS) check in each U.S. state where the employee has lived during the last five years. Sex offender registry check through the U.S. Department of Justice National Sex Offender Public Website. All state-required background checks. ORR Central Registry check, repeated at least annually. Driver’s record check and clearance, if transporting children. Background investigations are updated at least every five years. Employment is also contingent on verification of legal eligibility to work in the United States through E-Verify or another authorized method.
