Inventory Specialist

Responsibilities Responsible for executing, monitoring, and training inventory best practices and standard operating procedures for the entire store, including both front end and pharmacy. Supports pharmacy inventory management activities: receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. Champions On‑Shelf Availability, responsible for receiving, counting, pricing, returns, and all in‑store inventory processes. Validates and ensures accuracy of planograms. Reviews and coordinates proper use of reports and system applications that impact accuracy of front end and pharmacy on‑hand balances and pricing. Executes and maintains front end and pharmacy asset protection techniques; files claims for warehouse and vendor overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods including prescription drugs. Opens and closes the store in absence of store management, performing required systems start‑ups, cash handling, cashier responsibilities, and ensuring floor and stock room readiness. Engages customers by greeting them, offering assistance, and resolving issues to ensure a positive experience. Models and shares customer service best practices with team members. Executes and coaches team members on warehouse and vendor inventory management processes, including ordering. Scans all deliveries while vendor is in store; takes action on received products and contacts vendor for undelivered receipts. Under pharmacist supervision, verifies all pharmacy shipments are posted and completes postings for all pharmacy and vendor orders daily. Completes On‑Shelf Availability end‑to‑end process including warehouse and DSD for planogrammed departments; executes disposals, call‑ins, vendor returns before expiration. Under pharmacist supervision, completes pharmacy inventory activities such as recalls, vendor returns, and non‑controlled salvage returns. Performs all pricing activities: price changes, markdowns, and deletes; ensures accurate signage and regulatory pricing tasks. Supports front end and pharmacy ordering by ordering expense items and monitoring manual orders. Ensures pull & quarantine items on‑hand counts and placement in designated holding area. Maintains accurate inventory counts and on‑hand quantities for all departments and pharmacy. Maintains compliance with state and local laws regarding regulated products. Assists in maintenance of inventory records, receiving and posting all products, organizing invoices/receipts/return authorizations. Prepares for physical inventory and supports physical inventory day activities, including audits. Supports keeping all counters and shelves clean and well merchandised. Manages package delivery activities, scanning, returns, and Pickup Program execution. When serving as leader on duty, registers all related sales on POS, addresses scanning errors, price verifications, voids, refunds, cash drops, and provides change. Complies with all company policies; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers. Completes any additional assigned activities. Training & Personal Development Attends company‑based trainings for continuous development and completes all e‑learning modules including safety training requirements. Obtains and maintains a valid pharmacy license/certification as required by the state. Communications Serves as liaison between management and non‑management team members, coaching and developing other capabilities with inventory systems. When acting as leader on duty, communicates assigned tasks to team members and reports disciplinary issues and customer complaints to management. Basic Qualifications Six months of prior work experience with Walgreens (internal candidates) or one year of prior retail work experience (external candidates). Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico). Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours. “Achieving expectations” rating on last performance review and no written disciplinary actions in the previous 12 months (internal candidates only). Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to multi‑task and manage execution. Experience in identifying operational issues and recommending and implementing strategies to resolve problems. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience as shift lead, pharmacy technician, designated hitter, or customer service associate. Prior work experience with Walgreens, with an evaluation on file.
