Human Resources Generalist

Join HOMEFIX CUSTOM REMODELING CORP in Laurel, MD (onsite), where the HR function supports hiring, onboarding, and compliance so teams can focus on delivering quality work. This role offers hands-on involvement across employee lifecycle processes, from benefits and payroll coordination to records management, employee relations, and audit readiness. You will work in a collaborative environment using modern HR tools including HRIS, ATS, E-Verify, and Paycom. What you will do Help coordinate benefit enrollment and support employee questions related to policies and PTO . Support payroll processing , including running point on employee expenses and maintaining the related expense and tracking database. Handle Verification of Employment (VOE) inquiries and file worker's compensation claims . Participate in business insurance renewal activities and assist with reporting and external audits for benefits items, including 401k . Maintain accurate employee files and keep HR systems up to date, collaborating with department leadership to support compliance with federal and state regulations. Serve as a liaison between staff and management by helping resolve grievances, mediate disputes, and support employee relations. Manage onboarding from pre-hire through the first day, including E-Verify , exit interviews, and COBRA and termination workflows with the IT department. Work with department hiring managers and the HR team using the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) , including requisitions, extending offers, and ensuring offer letters are completed so onboarding can begin. Maintain position seats and support posting job requisitions and offer letter completion. Respond to jurisdictional unemployment claims through state portal(s). What you bring 3 to 5 years of experience in Human Resources, either in specialized HR roles or general HR functions. A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Human Resources (or a related business field). Proficiency with HRIS and the Microsoft Office Suite , including Microsoft Teams . Experience with Paycom is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. HR certification such as SHRM or PHR is a plus.
