No Offer Description The Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery Polish Academy of Sciences (Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych im Roberta Szewalskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk) is the leading organization in the field of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, laser measurement techniques, machinery dynamics, tribology and diagnostics of energy production machinery. The thematic orientation of its research concerns aerodynamics, solid mechanics and energy conversion in flows including plasma and lasers. One of the research areas at the IMP PAN Turbine Department is the design, analytical, and experimental study of hydraulic turbines. The primary focus of this research is Kaplan and Francis type hydraulic turbine designs, with particular emphasis on applications at the lowest head. The works include structural designs, flow system calculations, and modeling studies in a wide range of turbine settings at the IMP PAN hydraulic turbine test rig. The goal is to develop designs with high efficiency parameters that will later have potential for commercial application. Requirements: PhD degree in mechanical engineering, preferred scientific specialization: fluid mechanics well-organised person with a proven ability to work independently, skilled in design, analysis and experimental research of hydraulic turbines, good command of written and spoken English; the knowledge of Polish will be an asset. Specific Requirements Proven experience in conducting research on hydraulic turbine diagnostics at the model level (basic, cavitation and runaway). Proven experience in conducting research on hydraulic turbine diagnostics at the field level or in related engineering areas. Proven track record, including JCR-list papers and international conference talks (at least 20 papers published indexed at Web of Science), Knowledge of fluid mechanics, CFD (Ansys, Numeca), AutoCAD, Inventor, Experience in numerical calculations of stationary and unsteady flows, including modeling of cavitation in flow. Ability to organise, analyse, conduct and verify the model hydraulic turbines investigations Languages ENGLISH Level Good Languages POLISH Level Basic Research Field Engineering » Mechanical engineering Years of Research Experience More than 10 Additional Information We offer a Post-Doctoral position (research associate) in the Department of Turbines, IMP PAN Gdańsk, Poland ( ) A full time (40 h/week) employment is funded. The gross salary is 7044,50 PLN/month (indicatively: equivalent to ~1620 €/month gross income, subject to some variation depending on tax regulations and on the EUR/PLN exchange rate). There are no constraints as to the nationality of the applicant; however, no extra mobility allowance neither family allowance can be granted, no visa fee refund, etc. Eligibility criteria DSc.
