Assistant Thrift Store Manager at Kenai Thrift Store

Position Title Assistant Thrift Store Manager Location & Department Kenai Thrift Store, The Salvation Army Reports To Thrift Store Manager Position Type Full-Time, 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt Summary Under the supervision of the Thrift Store Manager, the Assistant Thrift Store Manager helps plan, organize, structure, and supervise daily store operations, ensuring efficient merchandising and sales. Responsibilities Plan, organize, structure, and supervise daily store operations. Maintain customer relations and provide prompt, courteous assistance. Operate cash register; process sales, corrections, over-rings; verify credit card transactions. Organize merchandise, price items, pull outdated items, label, and return items to warehouse as needed. Maintain accurate incident and financial reports. Receive donations, prepare donation receipts. Respond to telephone inquiries and route calls appropriately. Supervise staff, delegate duties, ensure compliance with directives, and maintain adequate coverage. Calculate daily deposits, sales reports, and bank cash receipts. Coordinate and update staff on safety procedures and policies. Report accidents, injuries, safety hazards, and maintenance needs. Maintain cleanliness inside and outside store. Maintain confidentiality of client and staff information. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency. One year supervisory experience in retail or equivalent structured environment; display and marketing experience preferred. Ability to operate a cash register and handle monetary transactions. Knowledge of general office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, fax machine, calculator). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Independent work with minimal supervision; responsible, well‑organized, and dependable. Must be bondable and have an acceptable criminal history and driving record. Software‑related Skills Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook familiarity preferred; ability to learn new software with basic training. Language Skills Must understand, follow, and give written and oral instructions; comfortable working with diverse individuals face‑to‑face and over the telephone. Ability to use speech and hearing for ordinary conversation. Mathematical Skills Ability to perform simple calculations and apply ratios and percentages in practical situations. Performance Skills Punctual, organized, self‑motivated, flexible, and eager to learn and assist others. Protect the Mission Complete required online course and pass background checks mandated by The Salvation Army for employment. Driver Requirements Licensed driver with acceptable driving history; complete and pass The Salvation Army Driver Safety Course. The employee agrees not to undermine or conflict with its religious mission in conduct related to employment. Work Environment Work is performed primarily in a heated and ventilated store setting. Noise level is low. Brief exposure to weather is required when managing donation receipt, sorting in cold storage, or assisting with property upkeep. Physical Requirements Speak, sit, bend, walk, push, pull, stand, kneel, stoop, reach, handle, finger, climb, and balance. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Operate a motor vehicle. Qualified individuals must be able to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.
