North Central Bronx (NCB) is a 213-bed community hospital providing quality care in a friendly setting. This facility provides a range of services and is known for its outstanding Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, Primary Care, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Specialty Ambulatory services. North Central Bronx has a reputation for its devotion to the needs of its patients and has created programs tailored to provide dedicated care to the community it serves. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Albert Einstein College of Medicine to maintain its high healthcare delivery standards.

The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) is an executive healthcare leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. The DCMO works in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer to shape overall clinical strategy, drive operational excellence, and advance the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care at both North Central Bronx and also Jacobi Medical Center.
This position provides clinical oversight and executive direction to adapt to an evolving healthcare landscape while ensuring accessible, high-value medical care across the facilities. The DCMO actively collaborates with Nursing, Operations, and Patient Services leadership to foster a culture of patient safety, clinical quality, and interdisciplinary teamwork.
Note: The DCMO must be a credentialed member of the medical staff and maintain an active clinical practice on campus a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
Opportunity Details:
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Operational Oversight: Provide strong, visible daily clinical leadership across all inpatient and outpatient service lines.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Maintain active, close partnerships with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Clinical Department Chairs, Residency Program Directors, and leadership across Risk Management, Occupational Health, and Infection Prevention.
- Safety Culture: Lead and participate in daily hospital-wide safety huddles to proactively address operational bottlenecks and clinical safety concerns.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Build collaborative relationships across clinical and administrative departments to standardize workflows, break down operational silos, and achieve shared institutional goals.
- Strategic Execution: Align clinical teams and department units around a shared strategic vision to optimize both short-term performance and long-term organizational growth.
Clinical Quality, Safety, and Compliance
- Standard of Care: Lead the integration of evidence-based clinical practices into new and existing care delivery pathways.
- System Initiatives: Direct and support the local implementation of broader NYC Health + Hospitals health system initiatives.
- Survey & Regulatory Readiness: Serve as the executive clinical lead for regulatory survey preparation, site visits, and performance improvement plans (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, NYSDOH).
Quality Analytics, Population Health, and Risk Management
- Quality Metrics: Oversee clinical quality analytics and population health initiatives for the North Central Bronx and Jacobi Medical Center campuses, establishing clear benchmarks and monitoring operational performance.
- Care Management: Partner with Nursing and Operations leadership to streamline care management processes, reduce length of stay, and improve patient outcomes.
- Risk Mitigation: Collaborate with Risk Management to identify clinical risk factors, minimize patient safety incidents, and uphold patient rights.
Provider Performance and Medical Staff Governance
- Clinical Evaluation: Oversee the performance evaluation frameworks for facility clinical providers, ensuring ongoing clinical competency and alignment with medical staff standards.
- Provider Engagement: Support clinician recruitment, retention, professional development, and engagement across all clinical service lines.
Qualifications
- Education: M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensure: Board certification in a recognized medical specialty and a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
- Experience:
- Minimum 5–7 years of clinical practice experience.
- Demonstrated progressive leadership experience (e.g., Clinical Director, Department Chair, or Medical Director) within a hospital or health system setting.
- Leadership Competencies: Strong record of cross-functional team building, clinical quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and effective communication across all levels of hospital management.
Wages and Benefits include:
Annual Base Salary: $289,000* - $420,000* based on 40-hour work week and medical specialty.
The annual total value of compensation package is estimated at $357,900** - $496,000** which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, and other factors as set forth below:
- Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year’s average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.
- 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
- Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
- After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
- Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
