Financial Accountant

Job Title: Financial Accountant Location: Shannon, Co. Clare, Ireland Department: Finance Reports To: CFO Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Onsite Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will be a technically strong Financial Accountant with group consolidation, statutory reporting, audit and practical tax compliance experience, including exposure to VAT, corporation tax, R&D tax credits and year‑end tax provisioning. They will also be comfortable exploring AI‑enabled tools and automation opportunities to improve reporting quality, efficiency and business insight. Role Overview The Financial Accountant will support the Group finance function across consolidated reporting, statutory financial statements, audit deliverables and tax compliance. The role requires strong technical accounting capability, practical consolidation experience, working knowledge of VAT, corporation tax, R&D tax credits and year‑end tax reporting in a multi‑entity environment, together with an interest in using AI‑enabled tools to improve finance reporting, analysis and process efficiency. Key Responsibilities Reporting Responsibilities Prepare consolidated financial results, including consolidation journals, intercompany eliminations, foreign currency translation and reconciliation of group reporting packs. Support statutory financial statement preparation for group entities and consolidated accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and disclosure requirements. Prepare audit files, working papers and supporting schedules, and act as a key contact for external audit queries. Review subsidiary reporting submissions for completeness, accuracy and consistency with Group accounting policies. Reconcile intercompany balances, investigate differences and coordinate resolution with local finance teams. Support technical accounting analysis for areas such as revenue recognition, leases, provisions, impairments, investments, goodwill and foreign exchange. Assist month‑end and year‑end close processes, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations. Maintain strong financial controls and support improvements in consolidation, reporting and audit processes. Tax Responsibilities Prepare and support VAT compliance, including VAT returns, reconciliations, coding review and supporting documentation. Support corporation tax compliance, including tax packs, taxable adjustments, capital allowances analysis and tax balance reconciliations. Assist with R&D tax credit claims by gathering eligible cost information, maintaining supporting schedules and coordinating inputs from finance and operational teams. Support year‑end tax provisioning, deferred tax analysis and statutory accounts tax disclosures. Liaise with external tax advisers, auditors and internal stakeholders on tax filings, audit queries and compliance documentation. Monitor tax deadlines and support improvements in tax reporting, controls and documentation. Qualifications & Experience Education ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent professional accounting qualification. Strong academic background in accounting, finance, business or a related discipline. Advanced Excel skills; experience with consolidation, ERP or reporting systems would be beneficial. Experience with AI-enabled finance tools, reporting automation or data analytics platforms would be beneficial. Experience Qualified accountant with strong experience in financial reporting, consolidation, statutory accounts preparation and audit support. Hands‑on consolidation experience in a group or multi‑entity environment. Experience preparing statutory financial statements and audit schedules. Working knowledge of FRS 102 and/or IFRS. Experience with VAT, corporation tax packs or computations, R&D tax credit support, tax provisioning and related audit support. Ability to work with auditors, tax advisers and internal teams to gather, analyse and document reporting and tax information. Experience using AI-enabled tools, automation or data analytics to improve financial reporting, reconciliations, audit preparation or process efficiency would be an advantage. Skills Strong technical accounting and statutory reporting capability. Excellent consolidation, reconciliation and analytical skills. Good understanding of tax compliance controls, documentation and the interaction between tax, reporting and audit. High attention to detail and ability to work to tight reporting, audit and tax deadlines. Clear communicator who can work effectively with finance teams, auditors, tax advisers and non‑finance stakeholders. Organised, proactive and improvement‑focused. Curious and confident in adopting AI and technology‑enabled solutions to streamline finance processes and improve insight generation.
