The RN will work in a planned surgery medical-surgical unit. Shifts are nights, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30. There is flexibility for four 12-hour shifts if needed. Travelers are expected to work weekends every other weekend, with some flexibility possible. Special certifications include BLS, with ACLS preferred. The nurse may be required to float to other acute care units as needed. There will be no block scheduling available. Local candidates are accepted, and there are no restrictions on local radius. The facility has a policy that allows calling off one shift per every two-week contract. References from the last year are required: one from a manager and one from a registered nurse or above. The facility is a Magnet-designated teaching hospital with a Level I trauma designation. The total number of staffed beds is 500. The patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Patient care focuses on adult acute care medical-surgical post-operative patients. Common diagnoses include orthopedics, neurosurgery, urology, thoracic, vascular, general surgery, and trauma. The unit provides interdisciplinary support from various services, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Skills necessary for this position include managing various medical devices and administering medications, including chemotherapy, blood products, and supportive care. Candidates must have experience in managing patients with tracheostomies, insulin drips, chest tubes, and other complex care needs. The daily census averages 30 patients, with staffing ratios reflecting this load. Travelers must be well-versed in managing acute care needs and demonstrate flexibility and strong clinical judgment.
