Contract | Days | 3x12-Hour Shifts | Variable Start Times Based on Cases | On-Call Requirements (2–3 Shifts Per Month)

Key Responsibilities

• Provide pre-operative and post-anesthesia recovery care for a diverse patient population including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics across a high-volume surgical services unit
• Perform pre-op assessments, patient education, consent acquisition, and preparation for a wide range of surgical specialties including bariatrics, cardiothoracic, neuro, ortho, robotics, urology, vascular, and more
• Monitor and manage patients in Phase I PACU recovery, including pain assessment and management, airway assessment, and dysrhythmia recognition
• Participate in on-call rotation with a 30-minute callback requirement; call shifts cover weekday evenings and weekend 12-hour blocks
• Float within surgical services as needed, including to outpatient ortho or same-day surgery settings on an as-needed basis
• Utilize Omnicell medication system and document patient care using Epic electronic health records

Required Qualifications

• Active California RN license required at time of submittal
• Minimum 2 years of experience in PACU, Pre-Op, ER, or ICU — no first-time travelers
• Must have both Pre-Op and PACU experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIH Stroke Scale
• Demonstrated proficiency with Epic electronic health records
• Competency in dysrhythmia recognition and management, IV insertion, airway assessment, straight urinary catheterization (male and female), and pain assessment and management

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in ambulatory/outpatient and inpatient surgical settings; prior Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma Center experience a plus
• Familiarity with robotic surgery programs, total joint replacement, bariatric procedures, and complex surgical specialties such as neuro/spine, vascular, thoracic, and GYN-oncology
• Proficiency with arterial line management, chest tube management, PCA pump management, central line care, PICC line care, and blood product administration
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
