Job Description

The Packer / Material Handler is responsible for packing finished goods and materials into the correct containers, moving materials throughout production and warehouse areas, loading and unloading materials using lift trucks and pallet jacks, monitoring inventory levels, counting components, conducting cycle counts, performing some sub-assembly work, receiving component deliveries, and filling orders for different assembly groups.

Essential Skills

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, or schedule form.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work schedules.
• Ability to take responsibility for the quality of work performed.
• Ability to effectively write and read English.
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Technical Skills

• Experience with hand tools used in packing finished goods, including air and electric power tools.
• Ability to read and interpret instructions and bills of material.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to work alone with little to no supervision while maintaining a high level of productivity and quality.
• Forklift certification and manual pallet jack experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Mark and label containers or products using marking tools.
• Record product, packaging, and order information on specified forms and records.
• Remove completed or defective products to specified areas.
• Seal containers or materials using screws, fasteners, banding equipment, and hand tools.
• Place or pour products or materials into containers using hand tools and equipment.
• Obtain, move, and sort products, materials, containers, and orders using hand tools.
• Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure packing specifications are met.
• Clean containers, materials, suppliers, or work areas using cleaning solutions and hand tools.
• Load and unload materials in the warehouse and storage facility.
• Fill orders from different departments.
• Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance personnel of defects.
• Move or expedite material to the proper department or storage area.
• Assist in moving material from stock to work areas as requested by appropriate authorities.
• Maintain organization of inventory in the warehouse.
• Conduct scheduled cycle counts.
• Maintain warehouse appearance and promote workplace safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education / Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year of experience packing finished goods or general knowledge of packing processes and/or equivalent qualifying job experience preferred.
• One year of experience with industrial lift equipment.
• Must be able to work overtime when warranted.
