Physician - Psychiatrist

Staff PsychiatristThe Staff Psychiatrist will provide services within Inpatient Mental Health settings, specifically for the Acute Inpatient Psychiatry Units as well as for Psychiatric Consultation-Liaison (CL) services to the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Care settings throughout the hospital. The incumbent, who also serves as a staff physician, reports directly to the Director of Inpatient Mental Health, or designee, who in turn reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Mental Health and Homeless Programs, and is responsible for providing psychiatric services to eligible Veterans through the VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS).A. Clinical:Provide evaluation and management of patients.Incumbent is responsible for the evaluation of patients admitted to the acute inpatient psychiatry units as well as for patients in the Emergency Department and other Acute Care areas of the hospital when psychiatric consultation is requested.Provide teaching/instructions to medical students, neurology, psychiatry and rehabilitation medicine residents, fellows and trainees from other disciplines.Incumbent is responsible for the development and application of a treatment plan for patients admitted to the acute inpatient psychiatry units.For CL work (within Acute Care or ED settings), the incumbent will be responsible for delivering recommendations to the primary team for the management and treatment of mental health and behavioral conditions specific to the consultation request that is placed.Incumbent will provide on-call services and other duties as needed.B. Administrative:Incumbent will follow VAPAHCS Policies and National Directives.Incumbent will serve on at least one hospital committee by attending meetings regularly and contributing toward committee projects/plans as needed.Incumbent will support and enhance the VAPAHCS mission, values, and goals.Incumbent will be responsible for ensuring research outcome studies are conducted according to VAPAHCS policies and procedures.C. Other:The incumbent will provide education of trainees and staff as required.The incumbent may perform other duties as assigned.
