Development Officer

The National Steeplechase Museum is dedicated to promoting the sport of steeplechase racing in America, and all things incidental thereto; to educating the public about steeplechase racing; and to preserving and sharing the sport’s rich history. The Museum carries out its mission by mounting art exhibits, sponsoring related programs, hosting informative events, and partnering with other organizations with similar or ancillary purposes. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we rely on the generous support of donors, fundraising events, grants, venue rentals, and annual giving to sustain our operations and educational programs. Position Summary We are seeking a motivated and organized Development Officer to join our small but committed team in a full-time, on-site position. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position plays a key role in advancing the museum's fundraising, community engagement, marketing, and administrative efforts. The Development Officer will cultivate relationships with donors and national constituents, assist with fundraising initiatives, support the museum's daily operations, and interface with the various committees of the Museum’s board of directors. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills who enjoys building meaningful relationships. Experience in fundraising, donor stewardship, grant writing, event coordination, and/or nonprofit administration will position the candidate for success in this role. The successful candidate should be adaptable, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple responsibilities in a collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities Process and acknowledge charitable contributions accurately and in a timely manner Prepare and distribute donor communications, including acknowledgment letters, newsletters, and other stewardship materials Generate reports and analyze fundraising data using Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT Cultivate and steward relationships with current donors while identifying and engaging new prospects Plan and execute fundraising events and donor stewardship events in coordination with the Board of Directors Perform administrative duties, including processing invoices, managing correspondence, and supporting daily office operations Assist the Curator with basic facilities management, including exhibit installation and maintaining a welcoming museum environment Create and post engaging social media content to promote the museum, its mission, and its programs Design development and marketing materials, including Annual Appeal solicitation, flyers, advertisements, invitations, and promotional graphics using Canva or similar Required Qualifications At least two years of experience in an administrative or related professional role Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Professional demeanor and the ability to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, adapt to changing priorities, and solve problems effectively Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field Experience working in a nonprofit organization or development office Proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets and a willingness to learn new systems Experience with Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT Experience with grant writing Experience planning and coordinating events Experience designing marketing materials using Canva Additional Information Location: In-person at 200 Knights Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020 Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience Schedule: Preferred start date is August 24.
