Explain purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provide necessary education upon discharge to home. Conduct physician‑prescribed treatments of a routine nature, operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non‑invasive, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation to patients. Perform chest physiotherapy by operating equipment to promote secretion clearance; suction patients by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal); monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy. Perform routine review of patient chest x‑rays to determine need for further evaluation. Perform 12‑lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition. Perform pulmonary function studies according to policy (i.e., NIF, VC, etc.). Assist with procedures related to respiratory care according to policy (bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, etc.), where applicable. Perform adequate drainage of chest via PleurX catheter or similar device where applicable. Perform tracheostomy care according to policy, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non‑emergent). Perform arterial puncture according to policy and determine efficiency of ventilation; monitor, record, and report test results where applicable. Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines. Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free‑hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system, where applicable. Record all pertinent information of treatments and patient responses on respiratory care records and patient chart (including pre‑ and post‑assessment according to policy). Communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians concerning efficiency of therapy administered to the patient. Minimum Qualifications BLS certification required. Current state licensure required. ACLS required within 6 months of hire (Agency RT must have ACLS on first shift; PRN staff must have ACLS upon hire). Preferred Qualifications Must possess "Active" credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) or state equivalent; RRT preferred.
