Skilled Heavy Construction Laborer

Casella Construction is seeking Skilled Heavy Construction Laborers to join our Construction Division. In this role, you will support hands‑on heavy construction work across a variety of project types, learn from experienced crew members, and contribute to projects from start to finish. The ideal candidate for this position enjoys physical outdoor work, values safety and teamwork, and takes pride in helping crews complete quality work efficiently. This role is well suited for someone who wants to continue developing their skills within their abilities while gaining exposure to the diverse work found in heavy civil construction, including site development, utilities, grading, demolition, materials handling, and winter maintenance. Responsibilities: Maintains a safe work environment Independently performs core construction labor duties, including jobsite preparation, material handling, cleanup, tool use, traffic control, equipment spotting, daily paperwork, and basic utility support, while also completing higher‑level tasks with limited supervision Guides other laborers on tasks and equipment Responsible for the proper maintenance of all tools and equipment Spreads gravel, asphalt, and other materials over surfaces Installs water and sewer lines as assigned or directed Follows verbal and written instructions and performs tasks with little to no supervision Completes daily paperwork Performs other related duties as assigned Completes required training, both in person and online, as needed or required Winter Maintenance Responsibilities: Requires the ability to plow snow during the winter months across various locations in the state of Vermont and New Hampshire Must be able tooperatesnow removal equipment such as snowplows, salt spreaders, and snow blowers Must be proficient in handling both light and heavy‑duty vehicles equipped for snow removal, ensuring safe and clear passage on roads and pathways Must be able to work incold weatherconditions and perform physical labor as needed Qualifications: Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions Ability to remain flexible as assignments change Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors Good verbal and written communication skills Must be able to work some weekends and nights, as needed Must be able to travel out of town for a day or up to a week, as needed Ability to participate in regulatory training, including First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, Flagging, and Spotter training HAZWOPER 40hr certification Familiar with safety protocols Proficiency in math and reading Must be 18 years or older High School or GED preferred Valid Driver’s License 3-5 years of experience as a construction laborer Experience with HDPE welding and water/sewer pipe installation Experience with concrete finishing Experience with building demolition Experience with construction jobsite layouts and grading Physical Requirements: Must have the physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete work in various areas Must be able to stand, walk, and climb inclines for the duration of the shift Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally with assistance Ability to work outdoors in all weather Attributes: Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions Ability to remain flexible as assignments change Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with coworkers and supervisor Good communication skills both verbal and written Possess a positive attitude and desire to learn Sound knowledge of construction and practical experience with tools and equipment Organized with a systematic approach to achieve accuracy and efficiency Great hand, eye, and foot coordination Exhibit attention to detail Familiar with Safety Protocols.
