Area Supervisor

Overview The Area Supervisor is a member of Store Leadership responsible for a specific assigned area of the Store and for general operations and supervision when serving as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, maintaining a friendly and safe shopping environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing Company operational processes as required. Responsibilities Safety & Security Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors. Maintain high awareness on the sales floor, immediately correct or report unsafe conditions. Secure the building, control entrances/exits, ensure electronic surveillance devices function, and guard the cash office. Remove clutter to keep clear egress to emergency exits. Handle customer safety—accident prevention, reporting and emergency procedures. Test fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested. Customer Service Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect. Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times; recognize associates using Company recognition programs. Store Brand & Appearance Represent and support the Company brand at all times. Maintain a professional appearance per the Dress Code and ensure associates do likewise. Keep all areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard; handle daily trash removal. Merchandising Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to Company standards. Receive merchandise trucks when needed and process inbound deliveries. Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms; aid in placing merchandise on the floor. Secure and process back‑stock; deliver floor moves, signage, and re‑wraps. Reduce loss due to damage and maintain compliance with monthly presentation guidelines. Handle floor moves, promotional signing, and re‑wraps as required. Loss Prevention Comply with Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintain a presence on the floor. Protect confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise. Maintain the Public View Monitor and conduct “code” package inspections. Apply best practices to increase productivity and reduce steps. Front‑End Supervision Execute best practices and maximize productivity at the front end. Maintain pace, energy, and presence; manage the line to reduce wait time. Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and other procedures. Control breaks for retail associates. Ensure equipment works properly and supplies are stocked. Expedite go‑backs, ensure items are scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed. Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice and ensure salability of merchandise. Fitting Rooms Maintain cleanliness of fitting rooms. Audit garment tags and enforce tag compliance. Ensure go‑back compliance and proper tagging, scanning, and security of returned merchandise. Administrative Duties Execute cash pulls and bank deposits per policy. Manage front‑end controls for refunds, purchase approvals, and cash security. Administer payroll duties such as punch edits, scheduling, Sunday payroll, and reporting. Assist with other duties assigned by the Store Manager. Physical Requirements Use all Store equipment including PDTs, registers, and PC. Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, or moving. Regularly bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop. Occasionally push, pull or lift more than 25 lb. Use janitorial equipment, ladders, and other supplies as needed. Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, or lifting more than 20 lb. Qualifications Excellent verbal communication skills. Fluency in English. Prior customer‑service and supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with POS equipment and applications. Basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail.
