Description 5 Women’s is looking for a Clinical Support Tech I. The Clinical Support Technician is a dual role: a Nursing Assistant I and a Health Unit Coordinator (Clerical). Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant I and must be able to work both day and night shifts. Position Offering Shift: Rotating – Day & Night shifts, including weekends and holidays Hours: Full Time, 36 hrs per week, three 12‑hour shifts Entity: UNC Medical Center Location: Chapel Hill, NC This is a 28‑bed mother/baby unit providing low and high risk postpartum care. Our staff have a strong knowledge base in postpartum care for vaginal and cesarean section care, late preterm infant care, normal newborn care, breastfeeding, and family teaching. We are a Baby Friendly designated hospital and provide couplet care to our patients. We are dedicated to providing family‑centered care including rooming‑in, sibling visitation, and rounding by lactation consultants. This position qualifies for an extensive benefit package, including PTO hours accrued based on hours worked. It requires attending a mandatory week‑long hospital orientation offered every two weeks. Orientation Schedule: Monday and Tuesday – in person 8 am to 5 pm; Wednesday – 8 am to 11 am virtual and 1 pm to 5 pm in person; Thursday and Friday – virtual. Summary: Responsible for assisting the professional caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patients and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and performing a wide range of clerical, transcription, and maintenance of the patient care unit desk area functions. Responsibilities Assist physicians and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies. Critically review patient care documentation, noting significant changes in the patient's condition and reporting immediately to a registered nurse or physician. Perform a variety of clerical tasks including organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting and directing visitors, researching information requested by nurses and physicians, reviewing orders for logic and clarity, revising orders as requested, answering the telephone and patient call lights, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance audits, safety checks, and inventory of supplies; provide administrative support including PI audits and data entry. Provide clinical support assistance such as cleaning the work area, maintaining office equipment, troubleshooting common software and hardware problems, changing linens, checking supply inventory, re‑stocking supplies, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and assisting new employees and students with orientation. Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care, including bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation assistance, measuring and recording vital signs, height and weight. May be responsible for specimen collection, skin preps, catheter care, capillary blood glucose checks, simple wound care, range‑of‑motion exercises, and/or postural drainage. Reinforce routine teaching given to patients by the registered nurse or physician and document patient understanding of instructions. Distribute patient education materials when requested by patients or health care providers. Education Requirements High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Licensure / Certification Requirements Listing as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Professional Experience Requirements Prior experience not required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements Fluent in verbal and written English. Capability to develop computer skills if not currently competent. Salary $18.12 – $25.51 per hour (Hiring Range).
