Full-time Licensed Mental Health Therapist for Diverse Patient Populations

Position Overview Union Counseling Center is actively seeking a dedicated and culturally competent Licensed Mental Health Therapist for a full-time position. This role is pivotal in providing compassionate mental health services remotely, allowing therapists the flexibility to operate from home while maintaining connection with clients through virtual platforms. Work Environment This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a remote setting, utilizing technology to engage with clients effectively. Therapists will be expected to manage a caseload from the comfort of their homes, with the support of a robust electronic health record (EHR) system to track client progress and maintain accurate documentation. Key Responsibilities Conduct individualized mental health assessments that take into account the unique cultural backgrounds and experiences of each patient. Develop tailored treatment plans through collaborative discussions with clients to align therapies with their personal goals and cultural contexts. Facilitate individual, family, and group therapy sessions aimed at addressing various mental health issues, fostering resilience, and enhancing coping strategies. Work closely with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including psychiatrists and psychologists, to ensure patients receive holistic and coordinated care. Provide crisis intervention and immediate support during urgent mental health situations, demonstrating both empathy and expertise. Educate clients and their families on mental health disorders, available treatment options, and community resources, empowering them to make informed decisions about their care. Maintain confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards through careful documentation and compliance with legal requirements. Participate in internal meetings and cultural competency training to enhance therapeutic skills and improve service delivery. Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in mental health to continually refine treatment methods. Patient Population / Client Focus The patients you will serve come from a rich tapestry of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, reflecting the vibrant diversity of our Kansas City community. You will work with ethnic and cultural minorities, LGBTQ+ individuals, and newcomers to the area, addressing a wide array of mental health challenges. Qualifications A Master’s or doctoral degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Mental Health Counseling, or Psychology from an accredited institution. Active and valid licensure as an LCMFT, LMFT, LCPC, or LCSW-C in the state of Kansas is required. In-depth knowledge of mental health disorders and familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Experience in providing therapy that respects diverse cultural perspectives and fosters an inclusive environment. Strong crisis intervention capabilities with the ability to remain composed in challenging scenarios. Excellent interpersonal skills and a track record of building strong relationships with diverse client groups. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic office software. A commitment to maintaining professional ethics and confidentiality in all aspects of care. A collaborative spirit, capable of working effectively within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team. Preferred Experience Previous experience working with multicultural populations and an understanding of the unique challenges they face. Experience in remote therapy practice, utilizing digital tools effectively to connect with clients. Familiarity with diverse treatment modalities, including trauma-informed care and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Compensation and Benefits The salary for this position ranges from USD 70,000 to 100,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
