Legal Counsel
$170k - $210kTEAGUE
WHO WE ARE:
Teague is an independent consultancy that brings together diverse expertise to help organizations solve complex challenges and shape what’s next. We work across automotive, commercial aviation, smart cities and infrastructure, advanced mobility, technology, space, and defense. Our work is powered by a multidisciplinary team spanning creative, technical, business, and corporate functions, all working together to deliver meaningful results for our clients. We’re proudly employee-owned, with a culture built on collaboration, accountability, and shared success. At Teague, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work, grow your career, and be part of a company where everyone has a stake in our future.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Legal Counsel serves as Teague's chief legal officer and primary attorney, providing the main source of legal advice across the organization. A dynamic, hands-on leader, this role balances high-level legal judgment with day-to-day execution — ensuring Teague operates within the law at all times, limiting risk exposure, and protecting the company's financial well-being and long-term viability.
Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, the Legal Counsel is a trusted voice at the board and executive table, integral to business decisions across contracts, compliance, employment, IP, and regulatory matters, including negotiating services agreements with all client partners ranging from startups to large corporations like Boeing. The role also serves as Corporate Secretary, supporting Teague's governance and Board-level responsibilities.
By translating complex legal and regulatory considerations into clear, actionable guidance, the Legal Counsel enables Teague's leadership to make confident, well-informed decisions that safeguard the company's integrity, reputation, and future.
TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS:
Travel domestically and internationally less than 5% of the time to support client and/or vendor meetings.
WHO YOU ARE:
You are a pragmatic, business-minded legal leader who brings sound judgment, discretion, and a strong sense of accountability to complex and sometimes ambiguous situations. You know how to balance legal risk with business priorities, translating complex issues into clear, actionable guidance that helps leaders make confident decisions. You’re comfortable operating independently, navigating sensitive matters with tact, and knowing when to lean in, when to challenge an approach, and when to bring in additional expertise.
You are a trusted partner who builds strong relationships across an organization, from executive leadership and the Board to HR, Finance, Operations, Business Development, and project teams. You’re proactive and curious, looking beyond today’s legal needs to anticipate emerging risks and opportunities, modernize how legal support is delivered, and help the business evolve responsibly. Above all, you bring integrity, composure, and a practical mindset to protecting the company while enabling it to do its best work.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
OWNING
- Own Teague’s legal risk posture, ensuring contracts, compliance, and governance commitments are met with integrity and transparency.
- Represent Teague credibly and effectively with clients, outside counsel, regulators, and other external stakeholders.
- Lead high-stakes and high-ambiguity legal matters, including disputes, regulatory inquiries, and sensitive employment or labor issues, proactively identifying and addressing risk before it compounds.
- Exercise sound legal and business judgment in sensitive, confidential, or politically complex situations.
- Coordinate with the Facilities Team on leasing and management of multiple large warehouse and office properties
- Build trust with the Executive Team and Board through discretion, composure, transparency, and consistent follow-through.
THINKING
- Serve as a strategic legal advisor to Teague’s leadership, shaping decisions related to deal structure, organizational design, commercial models, and other business priorities.
- Anticipate legal and regulatory exposure by considering industry trends, including the evolving aerospace and defense regulatory landscape, alongside Teague’s long-term business goals.
- Identify opportunities to modernize and improve how legal support is delivered across the organization, including technology, processes, and outside counsel management.
- Challenge legacy approaches when they no longer serve Teague’s scale, business needs, or evolving risk profile.
- Provide leadership and guidance on the responsible integration of artificial intelligence across the business, helping establish appropriate legal, compliance, and risk-management practices.
- Assist outside ESOP counsel in the design and administration of equity compensation plans.
DOING
- Provide practical, hands-on legal counsel across Teague’s core areas of need, including employment law, ESOP matters, commercial contracts, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and aerospace/export compliance.
- Independently manage matters within core areas of expertise while strategically engaging outside counsel when specialized or additional support is warranted.
- Translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable guidance that enables non-legal leaders to make informed business decisions.
- Maintain and strengthen Teague’s compliance practices, proactively identifying gaps and protecting the organization’s legal and reputational interests.
- Partner with HR, Finance, Operations, and other teams to build legal and risk awareness into day-to-day decision-making.
- Oversee corporate legal department record-keeping and document management.
WHAT YOU BRING:
Experience
- 10+ years of legal experience, including contract drafting and advising on corporate governance
- Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Demonstrated sound judgment in ambiguous situations and skill in driving consensus among diverse stakeholders
Legal Expertise

- Corporate and commercial transactions, intellectual property, real estate leasing, and employment law.

- Risk management and contractual risk identification and mitigation
- Labor and employment law (working knowledge) supports Corporate & HR teams on policy matters, escalating to outside counsel as needed
- FAA, FAR, and DFAR regulatory experience
- U.S. and foreign data privacy and security compliance (working knowledge), with escalation to outside legal experts as needed
- Litigation and private dispute resolution experience
- Experience supporting Artificial Intelligence, corporate governance, data privacy/security, compliance, and regulatory certification initiatives
- Background as outside counsel or professional services advisor, interfacing with clients ranging from startups to large enterprises
Business & Leadership Acumen

- Sound ethical judgment, balancing ESOP shareholder interests with corporate social responsibility

- Political savvy, tact, and the ability to counsel senior leadership through sensitive matters
- Client-focused, entrepreneurial, proactive, and pragmatic problem-solver
- Ability to recognize matters requiring elevated review by senior management and support go/no-go pursuit decisions
- Experience managing outside counsel and coordinating with accounting and other professional advisors
- Proactive in monitoring and communicating changes in relevant law and regulation
