PFTC is excited to announce up to 7 temporary detail assignments (not to exceed 120 days). Training Coordinators/Specialists and Operations Assistant roles will be filled for multiple grade levels (7, 8, 9, 11), with options for both GW and GS scales. (Applicants can maintain GW wage protections during a GS detail.)

Duty Station: Current Assigned Federal Duty Station or Tallahassee, FL

Required Travel: 50% to 75%

Estimated EOD: 01/06/2027 and 05/01/2027. (PP 26 - PP 8) Orientation in Tallahassee, FL from January 6 & 7, 2027

Operations Assistant - General Role Overview

The detailed Operations Assistant reports to NIPFTC Operations Specialist staff and promotes the mission of NIPFTC during training events around the country. The Assistant is responsible for assisting in logistics and implementation of NIPFTC training deliveries. This role involves coordinating with NIPFTC staff Operations and Training Specialists and involves travel at least 50% of the time. The Specialist is the communication linkage between the training participants, host units, cadre and NIPFTC staff.

Key Responsibilities:

• Coordination & Communication: Serve as a liaison between modules and hosts to align goals, resolve issues, and maintain workflow. Coordinate introductions with hosts and PFTC core staff. Arrange meetings for PFTC staff and host units.
• Align training center mission and host unit programs, answer questions, and expand NIPFTC network.
• On-the-Ground Operations: Spend approximately 50% of the time in field, driving long distances, burning with modules, supporting Field Coordinators, and ensuring training objectives are met. Provide mentorship and support to modules on the road.
• Logistics support: Occasionally make small purchases, outfit vehicles with supplies, shuttle equipment and personnel, towing trailers, and ensure modules needs are supported.
• Documentation & Reporting: Gather contacts' information and provide it to Operations and Training. Observe Modules, and FC's and provide Training and Operations with your thoughts.
• Documentation & Resource Management: Maintain accurate records, document contacts' information, follow SOP's, monitor inventory, order supplies, and ensure equipment is maintained in good working order.

• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation and process execution.
• Analytical mindset to assess operational performance and make data-driven decisions.
• Training mindset to assist the framing of training deliveries and to support cadre efforts.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, adapting to changing demands.
• This role is dynamic, requiring both strategic oversight and hands-on operational support to drive results. This may require the ability to switch modes quickly between operations, logistics, and training.

Training Specialist: Overall General Description of Duties

Reports to NIPFTC staff training specialists, providing support and assistance to accomplish the mission and purpose of NIPFTC deliveries. The detailed Training Specialist promotes the mission of NIPFTC during training events around the country. The Specialist is responsible for assisting in implementation, logistical support, and development of NIPFTC training deliveries. This role requires travel at least 50% of the time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implement Training and Provide Logistical Support: Support all aspects of training orientation, delivery, and course closeout activities. This will often include traveling to the training delivery site.
• Facilitate/instruct interagency training material.
• Deliver various training courses, including the Fire Leadership Modules, Burn Plan Workshops, Agency Administrator Workshops, and the Fuels Academy.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for training deliveries as needed.

Skills and Competencies:

• Have a technical understanding of developing course content, ensuring multi-agency needs are met.
• Ensure adherence to standards specified in regulations, policies, and guidelines.
• Refine and update course materials for the Fire Leadership Modules, Fire Effects Monitoring Workshop, Burn Plan Workshops, Agency Administrator Workshops, and the Fuels Academy.
