Our client is a well-established commercial real estate organization seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to support a diverse portfolio of properties. This role offers exposure to property accounting, financial reporting, month-end close, CAM reconciliations, budgeting, and corporate accounting responsibilities. Responsibilities:
• Manage accounting activities for an assigned property portfolio, including maintaining the general ledger and completing month-end close procedures on schedule.
• Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules that substantiate account balances and financial statement reporting.
• Build and maintain detailed workpapers and monthly close documentation to support accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.
• Analyze account fluctuations and accruals, investigate variances, and contribute to budgeting activities and operating expense recovery processes.
• Partner with internal accounting colleagues, property management teams, auditors, and tax professionals to gather information and resolve financial reporting questions.
• Support compliance initiatives by assisting with internal control procedures and Sarbanes-Oxley related documentation and testing.
• Coordinate deliverables with external or offshore accounting support resources while monitoring deadlines and quality expectations.
• Contribute to process improvement efforts and perform additional accounting-related assignments as business needs evolve.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
• At least 2 years of accounting experience, preferably within public accounting, real estate, or property accounting environments.
• Working knowledge of month-end close, accrual accounting, general ledger activity, and account reconciliation processes.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain close attention to detail.
• Effective analytical and problem-solving abilities, with sound judgment and a commitment to accuracy.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate successfully in a team-based environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with accounting platforms such as Yardi or reconciliation tools such as FloQast is a plus.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, or ChatGPT is beneficial.
