The California Civil Rights Department is looking to hire an eDiscovery Specialist! We are the nation's largest and most progressive state civil rights agency. This is a fantastic opportunity to serve your fellow Californians and help protect civil rights by doing unique and advanced technological work. Our eDiscovery staff are critically valuable members of our civil rights mission, providing case support with eDiscovery using RelativityOne and other powerful software. They work alongside passionate and dedicated attorneys, investigators, paralegals, and secretaries, providing complex technical ESI support in State and Federal civil litigations as well as government investigations.
This position provides one telework day per week and requires onsite work four days per week. CRD offers robust medical/dental/vision benefits, good work/life balance (state holidays & flexible leave options), impactful work, and the chance to develop a variety of in-demand skills. The position is represented by the SEIU 1000 bargaining unit 1. Successful passing of a one-year probationary period will grant permanent civil service status.

This position will be located in Sacramento, Los Angeles, Riverside, Oakland, Fresno, or Bakersfield, depending upon the location of the selected candidate.
This position is hybrid and requires the selected candidate to report in person four days a week in accordance with Department policy. Training and Development A Training and Development assignment (T&D) may be considered for this recruitment. Training and Development assignments may not exceed twenty-four (24) months. The successful candidate must meet the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) prior to permanent appointment.

Department Information
The California Civil Rights Department (CRD) enforces the state's robust civil rights laws, including the Fair Employment and Housing Act, the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the Disabled Persons Act, the Ralph Civil Rights Act, and the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
CRD has jurisdiction over complaints against public and private entities operating in California. With offices in six locations throughout California, CRD receives, investigates, and initiates individual and systemic discrimination complaints. CRD's Legal Division provides strategic guidance in complex investigations; litigates individual and pattern-or-practice cases in state and federal courts throughout the state; and provides general counsel support to the Department. CRD's Legal Division employs approximately seventy-five attorneys and staff throughout California.

- Experience administering Relativity or other similar eDiscovery review platform(s);
- Familiarity with using and editing ESI load files;
- Understanding of the eDiscovery lifecycle (ESI identification, collection, processing, review, production);
- Experience handling ESI (such as emails, word documents, spreadsheets, PDFs, chat/text messages, audio/visual files) and its metadata;
- Ability to utilize Excel to manipulate data;
- Understanding of basic eDiscovery analytics/AI concepts;
- Civil litigation and discovery procedures/concepts (such as privilege, responsiveness, redacting);
- Evidence of continuing education, such as additional paralegal or legal course work;
- Modern office methods, supplies, and equipment; business English and correspondence;
- Logical reasoning and situational analysis;
- Organizational and multi-tasking on concurrent matters/cases;
- Creative thinking to solve problems;
- Effective communication, listening, and collaboration.
