Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 9 months of travel experience required. License: Valid state RN license or Compact RN license required. Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certification required. Must-Have: - NIHSS certified with a current certificate on file, obtained within 2 years of start date. - Minimum 1-year experience working in a certified stroke center critical care unit preferred. - Familiarity with current stroke guidelines and performance measures for Acute Ischemic and Hemorrhagic strokes. - Experience with IV-tPA administration and post-tPA monitoring preferred. - Competency in stroke signs/symptoms assessment (e.g., BE-FAST). Description: Ideal candidates will float to stepdown units as needed. Patient-to-nurse ratio in the Neuro ICU is typically 1:4. Candidates must have experience with bedside dysphagia screening. The position requires skills in arterial line management, chest tube insertion/removal, and BiPAP/CPAP management. Candidates should be able to administer blood products and care for ventilated patients. Experience in continuous IV paralytics/neuromuscular blockade is also preferred. Responsibilities include monitoring CVA/acute stroke patients, administering emergency medications, and managing external ventricular drains. Candidates should be competent in interpreting arterial blood gases and managing dysrhythmias. Knowledge of infection prevention and isolation precautions is required. The role may include obtaining 12 lead EKGs and managing PICC lines. Candidates will work with patients post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery. Procedural sedation administration and monitoring experience is necessary. Ideal candidates should have experience with spinal cord injury management and starting/maintaining IVs. Suctioning skills for endotracheal and nasotracheal tubes are needed. Candidates will be expected to titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips effectively. Experience in caring for traumatic brain injury patients is essential. The unit has an interdisciplinary support team including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy. Typical patient diagnoses include cervical surgery, craniotomy, brain tumor resection, stroke, and sepsis.
