Job Title: Plumber I-II, Department of Facility Maintenance (Multiple locations). Term: 8hrs/12mos. Shift: Day Job. Schedule: Full-time (80 hours bi-weekly). Working months: 12. Shift hours: 6:00am to 2:30pm. Summary Description Under general supervision, provides all levels of plumbing and gas fitting and maintenance of school and building equipment systems. This work may include analyzing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, installing, repairing, replacing, building, prefabricating, altering and maintaining equipment related to plumbing and gas fitting. Frequently works independently; may assist with training and mentoring of other plumber/gas fitter employees. Two levels/grades: grade 18 and grade 20. Physical Demands Work involves continuous exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and/or loud noises. Heavy physical activity, lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work more than 70% of the job. Requires following extensive safety precautions and use of protective equipment. Special Requirements Ability to work beyond a 40-hour work week as required. Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge of principles, concepts, and methods of electrical and mechanical components of systems, new equipment and technology, standard equipment operating procedures, and complex system operations. Ability to correctly and safely use tools associated with plumbing and gas fitting trades. Ability to comprehend written, verbal, and visual directions and communicate clearly. Ability to use computers, including administrative software applications and computerized maintenance management systems. Knowledge and ability to meet the core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS). Education / Training / Experience Plumber I (grade 18) : High School or GED diploma required. Successful completion of an acceptable apprentice level plumbing/gas fitting program, plus four years of progressive experience in plumbing, pipefitting, or commercial kitchen, two of which at apprentice II or equivalent level. Plumber II (grade 20) : High School or GED diploma required. Successful completion of an acceptable apprentice level plumbing/gas fitting program, plus five years of progressive experience in plumbing or gas fitting, two at the journeyman level. Certifications / Licenses Valid driver's license required for all levels. Plumber I: Must possess and maintain a valid backflow certification. Plumber II: Must possess and maintain valid backflow certification and active journeyman license. Other Requirements Candidates must possess and maintain a valid Backflow Prevention Certification and an active Journeyman Plumber License. Hours: 6:00am to 2:30pm.
