Systems Engineer for GNC Requirements and Interfaces

Job Summary The GN&C System Architecture group is seeking a Systems Engineer to develop and manage requirements and interface specifications for guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) systems in mission domains such as strategic defense, hypersonic and space systems, precision guided munitions, and autonomous air/sea vehicles. The role applies systems engineering methods within a model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and/or digital engineering framework. Responsibilities Participate in requirements assessments. Assist in strategic technical planning, project management, performance engineering, risk management, and interface design. Conduct requirements engineering, scheduling, reliability, development, evaluation, maintainability, and analysis for training. Support the analysis and allocation of requirements. Capture and translate mission and customer requirements/needs into system/capability requirements and solutions. Assist in formal and informal evaluations and analysis. Analyze assessment results and make improvement/change recommendations. Ensure assessment results and recommendations can be incorporated into the requirements documentation. Execute system engineering lifecycle assignments independently under program leadership. Provide content for technical reports and presentations with appropriate guidance. Adapt appropriately to changes in program priorities and requirements. Identify challenges associated with assigned work and communicate them to project leadership. Elicit stakeholder needs. Define concept of operations and identify system context to bound the problem space. Work with subject‑matter experts across engineering teams to define requirements and interface specifications. Define expectations for verification and validation of requirements and interface specifications. Maintain traceability with higher‑ and lower‑level specifications, system architecture, and design work products. Build a culture of MBSE on Draper programs by establishing best practices and standards. Skills and Abilities Highly organized with a system‑level perspective. Strong oral and written communication skills. Practical experience with the systems engineering process. Familiarity with MBSE and/or digital engineering tools/methods. Proficiency with modeling/simulation, computer coding languages, SysML, STPA, DOORS, and/or other engineering analysis tools. Knowledge of GN&C, avionics architectures, fault tolerance, cyber/security, communications/encryption, or related technologies. Education A bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience 0–3 years of systems engineering experience with an emphasis on requirements engineering. Knowledge and Technical Competencies Knowledge of GN&C, avionics architectures, fault tolerance, cyber/security, communications/encryption, threat modeling, or other technologies may be required. Ability to define system context, requirements, and interface specifications; establish verification and validation expectations; maintain traceability; and promote MBSE best practices.
