The Certified Surgical Technologists work under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Certified Surgical Technologist shall possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physicians performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures./ph3Positions Essential Responsibilities/h3ulliThe Certified Surgical Technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure./liliUnderstands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon./liliKnowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. Duties are as follows:/li/ulh3Sterile Processing Duties/h3ulliDecontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment, and assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments./liliFollows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas./liliMonitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment./liliSort mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner./liliRestocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects, and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts, and facility medical equipment./liliPerforms environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas./liliVerifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and removes defective equipment./liliMaintains a clean work area./liliAssists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards./li/ulh3Surgical Technologist Duties/h3ulliChecks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure./liliSets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure./liliPerforms appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed./liliHelps in draping sterile field./liliPasses instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure./liliMaintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure./liliPrepares sterile dressings./liliCleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization./liliAssists other members of team with terminal cleaning of room./liliAssists in prepping room for the next patient./liliAll other duties as assigned./li/ulh3Robotic Duties/h3ulliAble to answer both clinical and technical questions about the da Vinci surgical system/liliTasked with plan for sustainable growth of the robotics program/liliServes as main point of contact/liliEnables surgeon access and facilitates best in class case support experience/liliTargets and supports new surgeons interested in surgical procedures using the da Vinci system/liliCoordinates and attends regularly scheduled robotic Steering Committees and provides operations updates on the progression of the program/liliWorks to configure the operation room in a way that is efficient for the use of a da Vinci surgical system/liliWorks with materials management to order da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories as needed/liliMaintains lean par levels of all da Vinci surgical instruments and accessories that should be in stock/liliCreates a metric tracking system for robotic cases to set benchmarks and evaluates progress towards the goals in reduction of non-operative time and more efficient OR workflow/liliBased off usage metrics based on instrument utilization data, determines where it makes sense to create trays and where instruments should be peeled back/liliWorks with surgeons and nursing staff to lean out preference cards and determine which standing orders are needed for all robotic assisted procedures/liliWorks with the OR manager or charge nurse to ensure operating rooms, designated for robotic-assisted surgical cases, are properly staffed/liliWorks with the nursing staff to ensure robotic rooms have all ancillary supplies needed for robotic surgeries performed with a da Vinci surgical system/liliEstablishes a training pathway for all new hires or those that will be working in the OR designated for robotic-assisted surgical procedures, including assigning online modules, providing an in-service on the da Vinci surgical system, and observing cases/liliEstablishes clinical competencies for all staff involved in robotic-assisted surgical procedures and explains guidelines for annual testing to ensure those competencies are met/liliEducates the OR staff on updates or new products used within robotic-assisted surgical procedures/liliTroubleshoots any issues with the da Vinci surgical system during surgical procedures/liliInitiates RMA process for damaged instruments and scopes/liliAssists as scrub nurse or First Assist at patient side during robotic-assisted surgical procedures if applicable/liliResponsible for maintaining, updating, and collecting the daily wrap-up sheet/liliResponsible for storing other da Vinci surgical system documentation in a centralized location or dedicated binder such as a Communication Binder./li/ulh3Education and Experience Requirements/h3ulli3 Years experience as a Surgical Technologist Preferred, or equivalent Military training./liliTwo (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist and/or has demonstrated competency in two (2) or more specialty areas./liliDemonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts./liliCertified Surgical Technologist
