Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg - Labor Pool

Overview Williamsburg, Virginia. The RN works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial, and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non‑professional personnel working directly with them to ensure optimum patient care. Responsibilities Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice related to the specialty or patient population. Demonstrate nursing unit‑specific competencies and complete equipment training checklists. Partner with patients and their families to develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes. Incorporate evidence‑based standards of practice and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team in care coordination. Facilitate safe patient transition to the next level of care as part of the plan of care. Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focus on quality outcomes when addressing service needs to ensure evidence‑based quality care of patients. Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations. Modify education methods to ensure patient/family understanding and coordinate individualized patient education and discharge education to family/caregivers. Evaluate for comprehension and document findings. Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements. Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence to meet patient needs. Recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluate resources and support needed and use systems to ensure those needs are met. Qualifications Education: MSN, BSN, ADN, or nursing diploma required. Specialty certification in the field highly encouraged. Experience: Preferred experience in an acute care setting, but not required. Licensure/Certification: Licensed RN or board‑eligible by the State of Virginia or a compact state required. BLS Card required.
