Salary: $18.26 per hour. New to state candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification. Position may work up to 1,500 hours within 12 consecutive months. Not telework eligible. Job Summary Non‑lifeguard mentorship position with the Junior Lifeguard Program at San Clemente State Beach. Priority consideration will be given to applicants receiving state public assistance under CalWORKs. Applicants must provide verification of CalWORKs eligibility. State housing is not available. The incumbent is required to complete a background investigation with Live Scan fingerprinting before appointment. Responsibilities Mentorship for Junior Lifeguard Program participants. Assist Seasonal Lifeguards and Staff Park & Recreation Specialist in daily beach operations. Develop job skills, work habits, and leadership qualities among youth. Serve as a role model while gaining leadership, teamwork, aquatic safety, and first aid experience. Working Conditions Outdoor beach and ocean environment that may include lakes and rivers. Work weather conditions include sun, wind, and rain. Minimum Requirements Minimum age 15 years at time of appointment. Currently enrolled in an accredited high school or equivalent program. Physical fitness: competitive 500‑yard ocean swim, 200‑yard swim, 100‑yard run, and oral interview. Completion of the Junior Lifeguard Youth Aid training program. Must work all weekdays during Junior Lifeguard Program hours. Must pass a background investigation and Live Scan fingerprinting. Must meet all minimum specifications for the classification. Desirable Qualifications Ability to work well in a team and follow directions. Motivation to develop job skills and leadership qualities.
