Industrial Automation Controls Technician

At Magna Engineered Glass, you will be part of a hands-on team that keeps highly automated production moving. From quick changeovers and first-response troubleshooting to scheduled preventive maintenance, you will work across robotic, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fully automated equipment. As your skills grow, so does your scope, progressing into system design, programming, and optimization.

A day in the role

Your shift begins with work center startups, equipment checks, and tackling any urgent issues that could slow production. You pivot between PM tasks, changeovers, and rapid diagnostics to minimize downtime. You will fine-tune adhesive dispensing, manage barrel and drum swaps, perform weight checks, and capture every intervention in the CMMS. Throughout the day, you partner with operations, join crossover meetings, and keep logs current so the next team can hit the ground running.

Career pathway and responsibilitiesLevel 1

• Execute work center startup and shutdown routines
• Perform changeovers and respond rapidly to production calls to reduce downtime
• Document all repairs and PMs in the CMMS
• Troubleshoot basic pneumatics, soldering, robots, tip changers, and assembly fixtures
• Handle barrel and drum changes, conduct weight checks, and complete changeover steps
• Track production metrics and follow escalation procedures appropriately
• Diagnose adhesive dispense systems across various adhesive types
• Update equipment logs and share status during crossover meetings
• Follow company health, safety, and environmental rules and properly manage hazardous materials
• Carry out additional duties as assigned

Level 2

• All Level 1 tasks, plus
• Diagnose PLC programs, hydraulics, pneumatics, servo drives, and vision systems
• Read and apply electrical schematics, pneumatic prints, and blueprints
• Replace hydraulic and pneumatic components
• Rebuild solder heads
• Troubleshoot robot programs
• Verify quality using gauging fixtures

Level 3

• All Level 2 tasks, plus
• Adjust robot paths, teach and calibrate vision systems, and implement HMI edits
• Create and modify PLC ladder logic, HMI applications, pneumatic diagrams, and electrical schematics
• Apply GD&T, use metrology tools, and work with industrial network protocols
• Optimize soldering processes and perform servo drive replacements
• Support engineering design by creating blueprints and drawings
• Train and mentor production and maintenance personnel; support skills assessments and recommend or deliver training
• Contribute to problem solving, continuous improvement, and special projects

What you will needLevel 1

• 1 to 3 years repairing mechanical or automated machinery
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and service equipment in your assigned area
• Solid mechanical aptitude including pneumatics and basic electrical
• Strong teamwork and communication skills, written and verbal
• English proficiency; Spanish bilingual ability preferred

Level 2

• Meets all Level 1 criteria, plus
• Associate degree in a technical field and or substantial related experience, or a completed mechanic or electrician apprenticeship with 2 to 3 years in an automation setting
• 4 to 6 years troubleshooting and repairing automation, hydraulics, and electrical systems
• Fluent navigating PLC and HMI software, connectivity, and fault tracing
• Skilled at modifying existing Allen Bradley PLC programs and updating HMI applications
• Ability to tune and improve vision sensor programs
• Hands-on with industrial robots, ABB preferred, including basic program adjustments
• Comfortable interpreting electrical schematics, blueprints, and pneumatic or hydraulic diagrams

Level 3

• Meets all Level 2 criteria, plus
• 7 or more years of progressive automation or maintenance with advanced programming and troubleshooting
• Expertise in machinery rebuilds and integrating hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, and robotic systems
• Advanced creation and modification of PLC ladder logic, HMIs, and pneumatic or electrical diagrams
• Proficient calibrating vision systems and executing complex robot path changes
• Knowledge of GD&T and precision metrology
• Experience contributing to design reviews and ensuring compliance with codes, safety standards, and maintainability

• Lift up to 35 pounds multiple times each hour
• Frequent bending, twisting, turning, and lifting
