Technical Sales Engineer

Location: Metro Detroit, Michigan | Full-Time | On-Site

About the Opportunity

A well-established industrial machinery company in Metro Detroit is looking to add a Technical Sales Engineer to its growing team. This is a confidential opportunity with a company that designs and builds highly engineered manufacturing equipment used by customers around the world.

This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys the technical side of engineering but also likes working with customers, developing creative solutions and helping turn an initial idea into a successful machine project. No two projects are exactly the same, so this is not a position where you will be doing the same thing every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Work directly with customers to understand their manufacturing needs, technical specifications and project goals.

• Review RFQs, drawings, specifications and supporting documentation to determine project requirements.

• Develop technical concepts and equipment solutions for automated machinery and manufacturing systems.

• Prepare detailed proposals, quotations, cost estimates and project scopes.

• Estimate engineering hours, labor, materials, purchased components and other project costs.

• Partner with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing and project-management teams to make sure proposed solutions are realistic and competitive.

• Present technical concepts and proposals to customers while answering questions throughout the sales process.

• Help identify potential risks, technical concerns and cost-saving opportunities before a project is awarded.

• Support sales presentations, customer meetings and project handoffs.

• Build strong customer relationships and serve as a trusted technical resource.

• Assist with occasional customer-site visits and industry events when needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience as an Applications Engineer, Proposal Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, Estimating Engineer or in a similar position.

• Experience with industrial machinery, automated equipment, machine tools or custom manufacturing systems.

• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, electrical documentation and customer specifications.

• Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, estimates or project scopes.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how complete machine systems operate.

• Comfortable communicating with customers as well as engineering and manufacturing teams.

• Ability to manage multiple proposals and priorities without losing attention to detail.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to recommend practical solutions.

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field is preferred, although equivalent hands-on industry experience will also be considered.
