Design Engineer - Water/Wastewater

We are seeking a Design Engineer specialising in water and wastewater infrastructure to support the development and delivery of technically robust, sustainable solutions. The successful candidate will contribute to projects across the full design lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design, construction support and handover. This is an opportunity to work on a varied portfolio of schemes involving treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines, storage facilities and associated civil infrastructure.


Key responsibilities will include preparing calculations, specifications, drawings, schedules and technical reports; developing design solutions in accordance with relevant standards, legislation and client requirements; and coordinating inputs from multidisciplinary teams, contractors and external stakeholders. You will undertake design reviews, identify and manage technical risks, support optioneering and cost planning, and provide engineering assistance during construction. The role may also involve site visits, inspections, responding to technical queries, reviewing contractor submissions and contributing to project programmes and progress reporting. A strong focus on health, safety, sustainability, quality and constructability will be essential throughout all stages of delivery.


Applicants should hold a degree or equivalent qualification in civil, mechanical, environmental or a related engineering discipline, with relevant experience in the water or wastewater sector. You will need a sound understanding of infrastructure design principles, applicable codes and regulatory requirements, as well as experience using design and engineering software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modelling tools or similar. The ability to interpret technical information, produce accurate documentation and communicate clearly with colleagues and clients is essential. Experience working within regulated utility, consultancy or delivery environments would be advantageous. Professional registration, or a clear commitment to achieving it, is desirable.
