The Medical Coder is responsible for accurately reviewing medical documentation and assigning appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes to support accurate billing, reimbursement, and compliance. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced medical coding professional who enjoys working in a close-knit healthcare environment and takes pride in accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail. Key Responsibilities Review medical records and clinical documentation to determine appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes. Ensure documentation supports the codes assigned and identify documentation requiring clarification. Review claims and coding information for accuracy and completeness. Assist with resolving coding-related billing and reimbursement issues. Maintain knowledge of current coding regulations, payer requirements, and Medicare/Medicaid guidelines. Monitor coding practices for compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. Communicate with clinical and business office staff regarding documentation and coding questions. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Participate in audits, quality improvement activities, and other duties related to the revenue cycle as needed. Requirements Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Medical coding certification preferred (CPC, CCS, CCA, or equivalent). Previous medical coding experience preferred, particularly in a hospital or healthcare setting. Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance requirements. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Mount Ayr Medical Clinic is ourrural health clinic located within Ringgold County Hospital. The current facilities were built in 2009 and features modern, large, and spacious. The physicians at Mount Ayr Medical Clinic treat patients of all ages between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday. The clinic also functions much like an urgent care facility, treating those without life-threatening symptoms but who require immediate medical attention.
