Medical Assistant II

Report to the Practice Manager or Ambulatory Practice Coordinator, with input from physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers Deliver high-quality service to patients and contribute to smooth practice operations Provide support, training, and knowledge-sharing to Medical Assistants, MA student externs, and Practice Assistants Recommend more effective use of resources Identify and resolve OSHA compliance issues Audit and maintain point-of-care testing and track test results Participate in practice improvement initiatives and small projects Greet patients, escort them to exam rooms, and serve as a communication resource Collect and communicate complete, accurate patient information to providers Respond to phone calls and requests Ensure availability of x-rays, lab slips, medical records, and other pertinent information Obtain vital signs and perform EKGs, injections, phlebotomy, departmental screening, lab tests, and specimen collection Assist providers and procure medical records Implement quality-control standards Ensure patient records and documents have appropriate patient identification Add new medications to patient records in the EMR system Assemble records according to BIDHC/APG policy and handle patient-information requests according to established guidelines Requirements High School diploma or GED required Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required 1–3 years of related work experience required Computer systems experience required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications Preferred: 1–3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English Ability to comprehend and converse in English effectively with staff, patients, families, and external customers Working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures, and policies Ability to work collaboratively in small teams Ability to provide professional, respectful, service-oriented customer service Active listening and problem-solving skills Ability to remain calm in stressful situations Competence providing patient care to neonatal, youth, young adult, middle-age, and elderly age groups Ability to exert up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently Ability to stand and/or move around through the majority of the shift Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in patient care, including vital signs, EKGs, injections, and phlebotomy, while ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and maintaining accurate medical records.
