Who We Are Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and organized educator-coach who is passionate about student athletics and leadership development. The Middle School Athletic Coordinator is a stipend position and is not tied to a specific teaching assignment or FTE. This individual will support and help oversee middle school athletic programs while continuing to serve as a coach.

Education/Certification
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Valid coaching certification and required athletic clearances
  • Physical Education Certification preferred
  • CCP, CPR, AED and First Aid and Football Atavus Certification
Experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful coaching experience at the middle or high school level preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating athletic programs, events, or team operations preferred.
  • Proven experience providing leadership within a middle school athletic program, including oversight of teams, scheduling, or program operations, preferred.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UIL regulations, district athletic policies, and student safety procedures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships across stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage schedules, athletic events, and transportation logistics effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate productively with campus administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Experience with budgeting processes and ordering procedures preferred.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations governing all middle school athletic sports.
  • Ability to evaluate coaching performance in collaboration with the campus principal.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Program Coordination
  • Assist in the oversight and coordination of middle school athletic programs and activities to ensure effective implementation and organization.
  • Support the scheduling of games, practices, and facility usage in collaboration with the Athletic Director and campus administration.
  • Coordinate transportation arrangements, officials, and event logistics to ensure smooth and compliant operations.
  • Monitor athletic equipment inventory and oversee the distribution and collection of uniforms and related materials.
  • Ensure full compliance with district policies and UIL rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Promote and maintain vertical alignment between middle school and high school athletic programs to support program continuity and athlete development.
Leadership & Communication
  • Serve as a liaison between campus coaches, administration, and the district athletic department to ensure clear communication and program alignment.
  • Communicate schedules, program updates, and expectations effectively to coaches, student-athletes, and parents.
  • Promote positive sportsmanship, integrity, and student leadership across all athletic programs.
  • Support conflict resolution efforts and cultivate a respectful, accountable, and team-centered athletic culture.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of UIL athletic policies, rules, procedures, and required documentation, ensuring full program compliance.
Student Development & Safety
  • Promote broad student participation and equitable access to athletic opportunities.
  • Collaborate with campus staff to monitor and support student academic eligibility in accordance with UIL and district requirements.
  • Ensure all safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management guidelines are strictly followed during practices, competitions, and events.
  • Foster character development, teamwork, accountability, and discipline through structured athletic programming.
  • Provide effective supervision, organization, and oversight of all middle school practices and athletic events.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student documentation, including attendance records, insurance verification, and required physical examination forms.
Professional Expectations
  • Exhibit ethical conduct and professional behavior at all times.
  • Attend and actively participate in athletic department meetings, assigned professional development, clinics, and conferences to support program growth and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records, rosters, and required documentation in accordance with district and UIL standards.
  • Support and implement campus and district athletic initiatives and expectations.
  • Coordinators are expected to be head coaches for two fall sports
  • Complete and maintain official coaching rosters for all middle school sports.
  • Maintain a consistent on-site presence to supervise, lead, and support the middle school athletic program.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with UIL regulations by being present during scheduled practice times and adhering to the maximum eight (8) hours per week practice rule for all sports.
  • Ensure student-athletes not currently in season participate in designated preseason and off-season programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee team practices during school holidays and breaks, as scheduled.
  • Fulfill assigned game-day duties and attend athletic events as directed by the High School Coordinator and Athletic Director.
  • Support and supervise assigned summer strength and conditioning programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by campus or district administration.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide coordination, support, and guidance to middle school coaching staff.
  • Conduct evaluations of coaching performance in collaboration with the campus principal; evaluation authority is limited to coaching duties only.
  • Facilitate and ensure completion of required campus-level training for all coaches in alignment with district and UIL expectations.
  • Establish and maintain proactive, positive relationships with parents by communicating program expectations, schedules, UIL guidelines, and student progress in a timely and professional manner.
  • Serve as the primary campus liaison between athletics and parents, addressing concerns promptly while modeling professionalism, transparency, and district values.
  • Build trust with campus families and community stakeholders by promoting open communication, conflict resolution, and a student-centered approach to athletics.
  • Conduct parent meetings at the beginning of each sport season to review safety protocols, eligibility requirements, UIL expectations, and La Joya ISD Athletic Department standards.
  • Collaborate with high school coordinators, elementary programs, and campus administration to ensure vertical alignment and strengthen the district's K-12 athletic pipeline.
  • Maintain documented communication with parents and guardians and ensure all athletic concerns are addressed in alignment with district grievance procedures and UIL guidelines.
  • Foster a culture of trust by resolving concerns at the campus level before escalation, maintaining professionalism at all times.
  • Coordinate regularly with assigned high school head coaches and athletic coordinators to ensure vertical alignment of systems, terminology, skill development, and program expectations.
  • Attend scheduled alignment meetings with high school coaching staffs to ensure consistency in philosophy, culture, and athlete development.
