The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Provides independent patient care related to patient evaluation, prescription recommendation, applying all manner of fracture casts, fitting and adapting of assistive devices and coordination of patient care with other health care professionals. Works in accordance with standard procedures and practices and exercises a high degree of judgment and skill. Receives training as well as regular direct supervision or guidance from a more senior Orthotics/Prosthetics Fitter. Demonstrates an ability to progress towards proficient and competent performance of required tasks. Ability to interact with patients and physicians on a professional level and a willingness and ability to learn must be demonstrated at this level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Measures patient by utilizing proper instruments and tests to compile data to be used in prosthetic and orthotic design and fabrication.
Manipulates patient's body or body segments to provide correction.
Properly fits orthotic designs by utilizing accepted prosthetic/orthotic techniques to achieve optimum fit, function, and cosmesis.
Evaluates patient's gait by visual observation to achieve optimum prosthetic or orthotic function.
Achieves optimum alignment of patient's prosthetic/orthotic device by evaluation of the sagittal, transverse, and coronal planes to provide maximum function.
Manages a simple, stable fracture utilizing prefabricated orthoses.
Follows up with patient care to ensure proper fit and function of the prosthetic/orthotic device by periodic evaluation.
Provides solution to a patient's prosthetic/orthotic problem by appropriate evaluation to achieve proper function.
Educates patient on various procedures being performed and/or explain roles and responsibilities regarding procedures by utilizing appropriate communication skill to achieve successful fabrication and utilization of the prosthetic/orthotic device.
Communicates patient information to referring physicians and other healthcare providers to achieve ultimate patient care.
Provides proper documentation of patient history and financial records by utilizing established recordkeeping techniques to verify patient care and other pertinent records.
Establishes procedures for patient care that comply with accepted medical/legal requirements by maintaining current education in these areas to provide appropriate patient care to avoid legal ramifications.
Obtains history of patient, evaluates patient, and examines patient manually.
Determines needs of the patient by integrating the information obtained from history, examination and observation to assess specific needs of the patient.
Analyzes data obtained by empirical methods to prepare recommendation.
Collaborates with patient, family and involved providers to develop a treatment protocol for the specific patient and determine specific device recommendation and plan for its use.
Obtains and accurately records appropriate measurements and other data from the patient to produce the device recommended.
Selects the most appropriate course of action when faced with patient-related problems by applying experience to recognize limitations in providing appropriate patient care.
Provides optimum patient care by recognizing the need to pursue continuing education to remain current in practice.
Provides ethical patient care by applying the American Board of Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics Canon of Ethics to maintain ethical professional services.
Educates individuals involved in patient care by utilizing appropriate communication skills to provide current prosthetic and orthotic information.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma and experience in a healthcare setting required
Associate's degree preferred
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to interact with patients and physicians on a professional level required
Willingness and ability to learn required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Board Certified in Orthotics, Prosthetics, and Pedorthics upon hire preferred
