Registered Nurse I (Fall 2026 New Grad Blitz) - Institute of Psychiatry: Adult Inpatient

3N is a 30‑bed adult psychiatric inpatient unit located on the third floor of the Northside of the Institute of Psychiatry building. All patient rooms are semiprivate and serve adult patients (18years and older) admitted for acute crisis stabilization for a broad range of mental illnesses, including major depression, mood disorders, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and more. The application deadline for this unit is August52026. Hours per week: 36 scheduled. Shift length: 3–12hours, variable based on departmental needs. Job Summary / Purpose Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced‑beginner level in providing individualized, goal‑directed nursing care to patients and families, utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process, and interacts with other members of the health‑care team to achieve desired outcomes. Responsibilities Assist in individualized, goal‑directed nursing care for patients and families Apply nursing process principles and practices Collaborate with multidisciplinary health‑care team members to achieve desired outcomes Qualifications Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred RN hired on or after July12013 with an Associate or Diploma in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of hire or reclassification Licensure, Certifications, and Registrations Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider) Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, and walking continuously Ability to climb stairs, work indoors, and work in temperature extremes (infrequent) Ability to work from elevated areas and confined spaces (frequent) Ability to bend, twist, squat, and perform pinching operations (frequent) Ability to lift and carry 50lbs unassisted and perform other specified lifting tasks Maintains 20/40 vision, corrected, and hearing acuity with correction Manages stressful situations, works rotating shifts, and performs overtime as required Works in a latex‑safe environment and maintains tactile and olfactory sensory functions (selected positions) EEO Statement The Medical University of South Carolina is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
